What amp would go good with a "15 sub?

Oh I don't buy anything online except at ebay, its easier to get it in town.

The 1 channel, class d amps are more efficient than the standard ab class(2 channel) amps This allows more power to be generated with less heat.

So I've come to some conclusions...

1. I need a seperate amp for a sub that big.
2. I have an MTX, so I might as well stick with the same.
3. The MTX 1501D is overkill for only one sub.
4. The type D mono amp is best.
5. The MTX 801D would do me best.

One final question though, what type of box would that 15 be best in. I like rock, reggae, and rap. I've heard that sealed sounds clean, but robs the power a little. Bandpass is the loudest, but sounds a little muttled. So if ported a sort of medium between the 2?

I, personally, would reccomend a sealed enclosure. The bass is cleaner and deeper. You do loose a little SPL, but make up for that in SQ. Plus with that size sub, and that amp you will NOT notice the SPL loss, I can assure you! Looks like you are going to have a nice sounding rig when your done. Good luck!

Cool, thanks everyone for your help. I just ordered the sub, and am now looking on ebay for the amp

Remember to let us know how everything turns out! ;)

ok, although there are benefits to a mono amp (class D) the 801d mtx amp makes its best output at 2 ohms... you can either run your sub at 1 ohm or 4 ohms, so in this case your better off with the slightly less efficient 502 class AB amp.

the 801d at 4 ohms mono makes- 250 watts by 1 channel at 12.5 volts (it is also possible to run this amp at 1 ohm mono, i've done it before, but that would provide way too much power to your sub...)

the 502 at 4 ohms mono makes- 360 watts by 1 channel at 12.5 volts

both of those ratings are a little lower than what you'll actually see since the amps are slightly underrated, and you'll be running at a higher voltage than that most of the time. In this case i'd go with the 502.

But wait, both the Sub and amp can run at 2 OHMs. I don't understand what you mean. :frustrate

the 801d will work, but you'd essentially be paying more for less power in your application than if you got the 502

Nozerider, your sub is a dvc 2Ohm sub. Which means it can run at 1ohm or at 4ohm's depending on how you wire it, parallel or series respectively. Most, if not all, dvc subs require you to use both voice coils, otherwise you risk damaging the sub. That being the case, unless that sub specifically states you can run on a single coil I wouldn't do it, hence you CANNOT run at a 2ohm load.

just want to emphasize the NOT running it on 1VC..been there done that best buy has the carcas
