Ok Guy's I have determined that this 97 Explorer has an overhead valve engine that appears to have antifreeze leak at the rear of the drivers head. Now I have not pressure tested it yet so is it possible this can be from the intake someplace?? I'm preparing to do either an engine swap( if I can locate one so far only sohc engines only) or simply find a set of reman heads and go that route.
Can anyone tell me what the best way economicly to go is? Who has good reman heads? Also is the swapping in of the sohc an easy deal? The truck was maintained and has zero rust it would be a shame to let it go.....

The coolant leak could indeed be from the lower
intake manifold gasket. There are coolant ports on
each end of the heads, and the OHV engine is prone
to leak at those points.

I'd pull the plenum and manifold and take a look. It's
relatively easy work, just time consuming. I'll bet a
new lower intake gasket set will fix it....
