Hey just wondering, i replaced the stock 8" with a JL but want to know wht the amp really pushes. Is it 85W peak or RMS, what ohm load, and all that junk, any info would be great!

The factory SW amp is rated at 85 W RMS into a 4 ohm load at 14.4V. The THD at this condition is spec'd to be less than or equal to 2%.

AHH so it is 85 RMS, thats good to know, but i wonder if it really puts out that power, i have a 8 jlW0 and its just not pounding like i would hope it would, bu thats prolly enclosure problems and other stuf too. thanks alot for the info, where did you find it????

go with a q-logic custom fit box, and just a 200 watt amp. I use a Pioneer 200 watt amp. You don't have to worry about blowing the sub it you don't set the gain too high. The q-logic box will make a huge difference in your sound. It ends up sounds fantastic for just an 8" sub.

are you talking about a custom fit in the stock location, or just an external box, and yes i might try that, i actually have looked at the pioneer 220 that you talk about i can get one for 45$ so i migh tjust do that, only problem next is im using stock headunit, and i have to get a converter and all that stuff.

Cobrajeff worked with the factory in the design/install of factory systems...............if he says that a component does something, then it does. :D

Thank you. Sometimes I have to bite my tongue when I visit this forum - not too many guys have any nice things to say about the factory original systems. The audio system is just one feature of many in a new vehicle - only a certain amount of money and resources can be devoted to it. It's not the most important feature for many consumers, but certainly rates near the top for many of this crowd. We did our best to pack as much punch and as many features into it as we could with what the program would allow us.

I assure you, the Ford amp will put out 85 Watts. I got the numbers from Ford, I was the Product Planner on the Audio Systems when the Explorer was launched, and again in 1998 when we replaced the "distributed architecture" JBL system with a simplified Mach system with an internal amp (from '91-'94, I was off doing cellular phones, and somebody else sneaked that "distributed system" into the Explorer) .

please forgive my if i came off....mean i guess. i really just was asking cause somtimes with these type of situations the amps realy dont do what they say, i am in no way doubting you, you obviously have great experience with it, im just glad sombady actually new the specs, thanks alot for your help.

Perhaps one more ?, i have a JL 8W0 at 4 ohms in there, would i get better sound with like an external mdf box with the stock amp still, or would taking that insulation crap out do anything?
