All:

I called around and everyone says that there is no flowmaster catbacks made for my '97 V8 5.0. What are all you 5.0 owners putting on your trucks, and what price did you pay??

My guess would be a custom cat back system. I would only recomend that anyway along with many other people on the board. It ends up being cheaper if you buy a muffler and have the pipes custom bent from a good shop.

yea, dont buy a kit just find a muffler that you like (make sure it has the right number of ins and outs) and take it to a muffler shop and tell them that you want them to put this on with some pipes. then they will mendrel bend whatever size pipes you want to go wherever you want. its a lot better than buying one of those kits.

So - just pick up a flowmaster muffler or whatever and then have em make custom fit pipes???

Well, the exhaust shop prob wont sell the flowmaster, so by that where ever you can and then, yes, have them do a custom bend. Should cost no more then 250 for everything!
i paid 220 for a 2 1/4 custom bend with a 50 series delta flow FLowmaster.

Would you go flowmaster or dynomax????

It really depends on what you want; both are good.

Well, I guess I also need to add that I have a two month old son, so the pipes can't be too loud. Just enough to get a meaty sound without making it too loud kinda thing.

I forgot to add that!!!!!!

If you really want mandrel bent then you need to ask the shop if they do that, most shops just do whats called crush bending, and it dosen't keep the same diameter of pipe the whole way down the tube. Just make sure you're getting what you want with the bending.

Good advice, Thanks. I would have never thought about them not having the same pipe width all the way through.

I think Ill go with whatever is cheaper regarding brand.

Cheers-

Finally!!

Got the 40 Series installed.

Great stuff!

(Took long enough - *sheesh*.

do you get any drone with that setup?

I had custom 3" cat back with a magnaflow and it was very quiet at idle and way too loud under load with copious amounts of drone! I had the guy weld the stock muffler back on. LOL

JD,
What type of setup did you go with? I've got a '96 5.0 and am thinking of either getting the 40 delta series or 50 series. Did you get a catback? Single in single out? Is the muffler all the way to the back or in-front of the rear axle? Does the tip dump at the back or under the cargo area? [sorry for the weird questions, but they all affect the sound] And lastly are you happy with the sound and would you have done anything different?

Thanks,

Kent
