What center console do you prefer?

I have wondered this, what center console do you prefer.

I am talking about the cup holder arrangement, my X has the two that are right next to each other with the ash tray in the front, and my dad has the one where the cup holders are in tandem almost with a slot for like a garage door opener or something to the side.

What type do you prefer? I am not sure myself, I never use the ash tray for anything, but on the other hand what do you use the slot for on the other one?

I am also undecided. I have never had the ashtray version but the other style is a general stuff sorting device. I like carbonated drinks so all cup holders are useless to me. I'd see the ashtray as a cleaner storage bin, not for ashes.

yah, that is what the women uses it for. The one thing I do not like about the ash tray model is that if you get to large cups they stick together and make it hard to get either out.

If I recall correctly the other version had some inserts that would fit into the cup holder that you could take out and clean (a big bonus, the bottom of those things get really dirty).

Yes they have inserts, people are often looking for those. Ford also had a round ashtray insert for one of the later holes.

My 95 had the old ashtray one and as much as I liked it as a change holder for the pennies that I seem to accrue I ended up installing the newer console b/c I was sick of trying to fit 2 medium iced coffees next to each other. Also I have found that the little slot in the new one is great for my phone/ipod.

I have two cup holders along with that square thing adjacent to it and those two slots I use for my phone and cigarettes..

I keep everything clean so when I leave the X, everything is emptied out. I hate seeing a car filled with junk.

I agree with the mess thing, I cannot leave my vehicle dirty. I use the interior duster almost every day to get dust and dog hair and what not off of my dash (I really need to vacuum the back seat out, to much dog hair).

I don't like the consol on my 06, its just a big storage pocket. There is no way other than a coin holder to organize anything. I want things like pens/ pencils to be separate from other stuff to make it easy to get to. i also have my phone charger, pad of paper, and a few other things in there. If you opened it and looked inside it looks very messy. I WANT DIVIDERS!!!

My 1999 Honda Accord had a little storage pocket that was actually attached to the lid of the center consol, i want that back.

As for the how i like the cups, i want them in tandem, and i really like having the shifter in the center and not on the steering column.

Oh i have another good one for you, why is there a tissue holder inside of the center consol that only holds tissue boxes that ford sells? Instead of having that i would like something to better organize my stuff.

That tissue paper size is an old convenient size. You can get those at a drug store like Walgreens I'm sure.

I was kind of venting and decided to nit pick the topic. I have a regular tissue box sitting behind me thats easy to reach, plus it makes easy for rear seat passengers to get them.

CDW6212R thanks for the heads up on the tissue paper, i may go and get some just so that little pocket has something to do.

:smoke: Oh i just noticed the original post mentions an ash tray, Ford no longer makes ash trays as a standard option. Yes thats right folks you want to smoke you have to pay extra, no matter i do not smoke.

I like the console with the cupholders front/back, it leaves more space to put stuff between the seats.

I keep box of kleenex brand tissue paper

and clorox wipes

behind the driver's seat, easy to reach, and the clorox wipes clean up messes really nicely, as an added bonus they don't discolor or hurt any of the interior or exterior materials of my ex. (the clorox wipes do not contain any bleach)

I have the side-by-side with ashtray.

As for the ashtray, it currently holds my locking gas cap keys. I got another ashtray from the junkyard, so sometime in the future, it will hold the display for a Sirius Starbase SC-FM1.

I have the one with the cupholders in tandem (97 EB) I like it because with my elbow on the center console, i can reach down and my hand is right at my drink, and that little space next to the front cupholder is a great place for my phone...which is also in reach. And despite having the CD changer in the center console, i can still fit a good amount of stuff in there

I pulled the ashtray one out of my '95 and put in the later one with the tandem holders. The open slot is perfect for holding a cell phone from sliding off the seat during turns.

I have the old piece if someone would rather have it, and I have some spare insrts for the newer one as well if someone needs those.
