Help, What did I break? I was backing slowly on a slightly up-hill slope in 4 Lo. I was parking my trailer ( roughly 3500 lbs ) in the back yard. Theory was to let the lower gearing do the work. While backing up I heard a loud bang/pop sound.

After un hooking the trailer, and disengaging 4wd. I went for a test ride. Viberation & Noise. Alignment is fine, no pulling. I get loud vibration under gas and coasting. I can engage 4wd and the sounds are the same. I have not locked hubs in yet to see if that changes things.

Any ideas.

Maual hub?

EZ-Locker?

T-fer case?

Thanks Rob

Hmm... Check out your rear driveshaft. Also check the front one and turn them both by hand to see if they turn alright. Check all the bolts holding them in. I know that before when I couldn't get enough torque on my rear driveshaft front hook-up it did things like that. I am guessing it would be in the rear somewhere.

sounds like given the condition and the type of vibrations... I'd say a u-joint.

My vote's on the u-joint also. Whatever it is sounds driveshaft related.

Front Hub?

More info.

At lunch, when I found out my daughter has to have a root canal ( $500 , my part of it after insurance )I engaged the front hubs. Much worse and the truck tries to steer hard right. With the hubs engaged it doesn't feel right, 4Lo or 4Hi doesn't seem to make a difference. Hubs unlocked, and 4wd engaged doesn't seem much different.

Given this info, I think the tranny & T-fer are "OK", I checked the rear DS last night, but I will double check it tonight. The front halfshafts are fine, and so is the front DS. I thought maybe the front diff went south, but it acts fine when engaged, unless you lock the Hubs.

I'll check the u-joints all again to be sure.

What does a bad Hub act like? Mine are Warn Manuals.

Thanks guys.
