so I am at the junk yard looking for parts for my project truck. I have found a 2wd ex, what parts do I need to convey a 4wd ex to 2wd?

Transmission is different because the 4X4 has a transfer case, the drive shaft is longer and might have different U-joints and the 2 wheel drive transmission mount is different , so I'd look at getting the complete drive shaft, transmission, mount , instrument panel, and the stereo panel. Why the two panels as well because not having the 4X4 light and switch would make things a lot easier. Are the PCM's different ? They might be because the PCM control's both the engine and the transmission?

for the v8s they all use the same GEM, and the PCM would be the same too. The transfer case is full mechanical, full time all wheel.

all i think you would need is a 2wd trans ( or just output shaft and tail-housing ) and rear drive shaft.

Make sure that if you pull the drive shaft is from the same truck IE. 4 door drive shaft not a two door drive shaft . The trans mount is different between the 4X4 at least on the V-6's, on the V-8's I do not have one and did not look today .Yes I just got done looking for parts a the local pick n pull so I saw a 2 door with the transfer case just sitting on the ground and took a look under the truck. And than at a 2WD to just look around.

Unfortunately I found a 2wd 4.0… so all I can get is the front suspension parts… is all I need off the front end is the spindles, right? I can get all new brake parts because I took a picture of the vin.

I believe so, i think the caliper and bracket are the same for all 4 doors.

Well if anything I can get a fully loaded calipers from work.

I changed my truck from AWD to 2WD, and just bought the trans and driveshaft from a 2WD truck. I cut the front halfshafts down and used them as stub axles. I put them back in and torqued them down and kept all the other hardware. Several thousand miles later, it's just fine. You just have to remember that your front end parts are AWD items if you need replacement parts.
