Begging for a little help and some moral support.....
I bought a '92 Ex with a bad transmission(was already out of the vehicle). Didn't know what may be wrong with it, so I bought a '91 Ex (rollover) from an impound sale. I thought the tranny in it should be okay, since it was being pursued by the PD when it rolled over. Removed the tranny, it was super clean, rebuilt converter,,,thought I'd bought a bargain.
now, the rest of the story...changed the fluid and filter, new front and rear seal and installed it. had low and reverse, shifted to second manually, but would only shift to 3rd after warmed up,,,no 4th. drove it around for a few days seeing if anything would improve. things are improving, it shifts 1,2,3 without much fuss, but still no 4th. the TCC works, rpm jumps 200 to 300 when you tap the brake pedal.
I read the A4LD overhaul (twice) and the valve body overhaul (3 times) and decided to remove the valve body from the original tranny and go through it.
surprisingly, it was super clean and all the valves came out of their ports without any cussing. apparently somebody had been working on the original tranny, but don't know why they pulled it out again. Guess I will attempt an overhaul on it after I get the current one shifting into all gears.
the solenoids check good in the valve body that I'm going to put in next week. I ordered new valve body gaskets and a Jr shift kit.
any suggestions as to why I don't have a 4th gear now ? anything that I might need to do/change while I'm staring up at the tranny on Monday?
thanks in advance for your wisdom and advice.........j
