I have bought my explorer about 3 months ago. I had my uncle (mechanic) look it over and change the oil and do a transmission service. He told me that everything looked good except that the transmission fluid hadn't been changed before. The explorer has 65,000 miles on it. He said that i should probally change it again in about 5,000 miles and keep check on it for a while. I am planning on doing a hugh service on the explorer at about 70,000 miles or so. I want to change the fluids in the: front axle, rear axle, differential, transmission. I plan on doing the engine oil every 3,000 miles so it will be done before then. I was also planning a radiator flush. I am looking and replacing the plugs and wires with Motorcraft Double Plats. and Motorcraft wires. I what to change over to fully synthetic on everything. The questions are as followed:

1) What brand and weight of fluids to use? (Something I can get at Autozone)
2) What else can I do to ensure trouble free use?
3) What is involved in changing the front axle fluids?
4) What is involved in changing the rear axle fluids?
5) What is involved in changing the fluid in the differential and transmission?
6) Anything else I need to check or look at?
7) Any pointers or tips I need to know about?

I am sticking around Castrol, Mobil 1, and Pennzoil in the fluids. Any information would be great.

Thanks,

I use Mobil1 and have for years.

Don't forget the not always so obvious stuff like your belt, fuel filter, etc.

That's a pretty good tutorial but a couple things: I wouldn't use gasket adhesive and I would go ahead and put in a drain plug while you have the pan off. Also, do any adjustments you might need, like tightenining valve body bolts and such.
