You'll know if you have it bad. Hit a bump and the steering wheel jerks to one side. All cars have bump steer to a certain degree, worse if you have really grippy tires.
Trucks, especially with lifts, tend to have it bad due to the weight of the tire and wheel falling into a hole and jerking the steering. It can be made better or worse with certain steering/suspension setups.
ok well i just lifted the truck and it feels like its all over the place and i have aligned it 3 times... with no luck.. still does it and after i get done and get out of the truck my front wheels are like this /---\ but when its aligned its all to spec? i checked my ball joints today and they are all good.... i even went to ford and got new camber bushings and still no help.....
You may need to check and see if you have the correct springs. Superlift was shipping the wrong sprinsg for awhile. Do a seach for superlift springs and you should find your answer.
it also feels as if its wandering all ocer the road... what do u guys usually set your air pressures at with 33's dont know if this could be a problem but ya never know
i think i am running 26-29 psi... at a friends sugestion... but i will air them up... i am also gonna try to put the axle pivot in the 4 inch lift holes and realign it and see what it does.....will bad camber cause it to wander all over the place with bigger tires?
Bump steer is the condition that occours when the spring on springs compress and change the gometry of the steering system. My drove like crap after it was lifted. I have since cured the problem. The most obvious cure is a front end alienment. The next thing to check are loose ball joint, radius arm bushings, loose front bearings and worn tie rod ends.
That being said, if you do not have a steering stabilizer get one today. I do not think that superlift should sell the 5.5-inch lift without it, but they do. The steering stabilizer has been the best complement to the lift for handling and ride comfort. I have one from jamesduff.com.
