edit: my second post has more info on what part I'm trying to locate

I"m starting to notice this from time to time...but not all the time

when i turn the ac on, it will blow air fine but at the ambient temperature then will cool after about 30 seconds..much longer than it ever has in the past

when it's working properly, i get cool ac immediately when i turn it on.

I check the refrigerant and the compressor and the numbers are where they need to be and the compressor is fine.

seems like this might be some type of switch getting stuck.

any help on what might be causing the cool to delay before kicking on ?

thanks for any advice

took it to the ford dealer and they told me it the air conditioning control module that is going bad but ford no longer makes the part.

this is a 2002 ford explorer eddie bauer 4.6l v8 4x4

Googling the "air conditioning control module" returns alot of different parts and RockAuto gives me lots of results as well

can anyone help me narrow down what this part might be specifically?

the mechanic who diagnosed it wasn't there when i went back to get the explorer so I'll talk to them tomorrow and try to get an exact part name

thanks for any help!

Did you ever get your AC working properly? I believe the module is the climate control panel below the radio, P/N 2424-18C612-AA or AB.

My AC quit suddenly and everything checks out to so now I'm suspecting the module. I took it apart and it is composed of two PC boards with lots of surface mount devices on it. I have no way to test it so an auto wrecker might be my next step.

Original poster last seen 11-2018. Would not expect answer. If you’re serious about this get a shop manual or $20 alldata subscription for one month single vehicle. Remember you have the Dual Automatic Temperature Control so you need an Eddie Bauer or Limited for parts.

With my 4X4 2002 Explorer limited the EATC in the dash is/was my problem...my vehicles have the controls where you set the temperature you want and the AC or Heater make the adjustments to get to that temperature. I took mine out, took it apart, found several "O" rings on small solenoids which switch the vacuum around to different hoses inside (it operates off of vacuum) which I replaced and lubed with mineral spirits. Put it back together and it worked again.

On another vehicle, 2004 Mercury Marauder, I ordered an EATC from EBAY that says it has lifetime warranty...I have been sent one replacement already...and it's still working 8 years later...
