Assuming your alternator and battery are functioning properly, it shoud be right around 14.4 volts. So any amp you use that is rated at 12, or 12.5 volts will put out much more power than it is rated at when you use it in your X.
A fully charged 12 volt battery should be between 12.6-13.6 but 14.4 is not uncommen. Voltage only matters to a point. If your battery has voltage, it doesn't necessarily mean it will crank the vehicle.. It must be the correct amperage for the vehicle and must pass a load test
I'm asking because I had figured on a 200 watt amp to power the MTX thunderform(recommended 50-250watts), I had chosen the MTX 4202 because it does 200 watts at 12.5 volts bridged.
But if the voltage is 14.4volts then I can use the MTX4122 since at 14.4 it does 200 watts and save $100 (about $60 US).
Is 12.5 volts given in a lot of specs because that gives you the min amount you can expect from the amps and really you will get a fair bit more.
the truck starts fine is winter weather (-20 C) so the battery is fine and turns over no problem
Without anything on our 1992 X is at 12.3 volts (Autozone Gold top 1000CCA battery).. With the current alternator we are at 14.5 volts at idle with nothing else on.
The last alternator was only at 14.3 volts at idle (different regulator I guess)..
If we turn our system on with the 2 amps I can get it to dip about 1 volt at idle (down to 13.3) and if the truck isn't running I can get it down to 11.5 but the system distorts if I do that without the truck running.
It kinda depends on when you want to play the system.. At idle/driving or when parked..
