what is this and what is its porpose?

my mom has a 2003 mitsubishi Galant I4 2.4lts. anywayz, me and IamTodd were looking at the engine compartment and we looked at the air box and was wondering what the heck this little extention off of the air box is used for or just plan what it is. If u have some comments we will be glad to hear them.

I dunno what it is but a K&N would look pretty good at that spot right there.

i think it is an air silencer or a baffle.

Probably just something to quiet the intake down. I recently took a dremel to my VW airbox getting rid of all sorts of baffles and other crap

Dude! I could be on Wheel of Fortune!! There is also something similar to this on the intake tube on the '02s. On the inside of the box above there is just a hole in it. No wire or anything

well there is nothing inside of it. it just has a little hole and thats it. empty inside...so i have no clue...lol

no just big galant bombs...lol. i just think they had extra plastic and needed to put it somewere...lol.

yea it needs a few ounces taking off...it doesn't like to move to fast with that I4...its only a sohc which sucks major balls, but thats y its not mine...lol
