It's a light/bulb holder thing to light up your license plate. I'm fairly certain it's a pop-in type of deal and should be a 5 minute fix. I'd google for replacements or just stop by a junk yard and pop one off. Should cost like $2. I found this ugly chrome one on eBay with a quick search:

BTW, the other photos in your album are...interesting. :D

Wow I thought no one would figure that out!:chug:
And Ditto on the other "ahem" photos

Paraphoe,
Thank you for your reply. I didn't know what they were called and autzone clerk hadn't a clue. There doesn't seem to be any scrapyards in my neck of NC so will have to order them somewhere. LOL as to the photos my normal work is a fetish and event photographer . Those are the TAME shots! As economy has worsened work has dried, hence my learning to be a jackleg mechanic as there is NO CASH to bring it to someone. My questions may be stupid to many here but it is part of the learning curve

No stupid questions man...that's what I love about the forum. Unless of course you pour brake cleaner in your engine or something and ask how to fix it. No mercy then. :D

There is a good junkyard in East Raleigh. I think its on Poole rd. Haven't been there in a while. Yeah its a little bit of a drive but might be cheaper than ordering a new one.

I broke one of my lic. plate lights a couple weeks back, too, I saw some of these on rockauto, don't think they were too spendy.

Parts Source

I live in Sanford, NC. In Spring lake south of Sanford on Hwy 210 there is a u pull it place that has tons of explorers.

I was there last week to replace my broken dipstick ($10 dealer wanted $75) and we walked all over the place. I know where my parts will come from. They had a huge selection of explorers with lots of parts still on them. You have to pull the parts yourself as they have a $75 minimum on parts they pull though.

Not too far a drive from Cary.

Damm people ! Thank you all for the replies and the tips! For those of you here in NC are any of you wiling to spend a day or 2 mentoring a newbie like me. Really could use some help and will spring for the pizza nad beverage of choice! Having some real problems finding things on the engine and could use someone to pint them out to me (and watch the truck does fall opff the jack on me. Found a Ebay dealer who has the lenses and will prolly buy from them.
