My guess would be that it's a remnant from the assembly process. ... I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with Joe. That looks just like the end connection of one or more of the emissions hoses on the intake. If you pulled those from the intake manifold, and those going to the LF emissions solenoid(on frame next to radiator), you would find the match. I'd say it came with the part to seal the hole until assembly. I recall those two ridges and the size when assembling my SOHC engine three years ago. Regards,
