My 93 Explorer has been having idle/stalling issues, even after replacing the IAC, but I was hearing noises of escaping air so I checked under the hood to see if I could find any kind of lines disconnected, and I found this.

There also appears to be another one not to far beneath it.

What is it?

For a quick fix.. just cap it off...

Then see if you can find a hose not connected. On our '92 I have two that are capped off (factory)..

I think '93s have one capped off (they have EGR which the '92 doesn't have)

It's a vacuum port if you don't have any hoses disconnected just cap it.

should I do the same with the one below it? I couldnt find any hoses hanging disconnected.

thanks guys.

I'll check mine when I get off of work and can look under the hood, 93 XLT 4-door

I'd just cap it off too, you should be fine. Once they're both capped off, see how it runs.

Those often will blow off if the engine ever "coughs"(backfires). That typically might happen when starting. If the engine ever does that during starting, stop immediately and go under the hood and find the missing plug. I went through that many times with my 93 truck, long ago. Good luck,

If you have an automatic transmission, I "think" the 93's only have one capped off.. with a manual transmission you have two..

I'm not positive (I have have a '92, which had two capped off since I have an auto trans and no egr).

Its better to have an extra one caped than it is to have the extra one open.. The engine will get unmetered air if you have one open (big vacuum leak).. If you have an extra one capped, what ever was supposed to be connected just won't work.. which is better than not running right in most cases.

mine popped off to!!!

i just took the other hoses that had slack and "borrowed" an inch from each one. took the small piece of hose and put a bolt that sealed the open end of it, and mashed it on there, throw a clamp on it, works great. i recently changed one to a longer hose though, my friend said you can run seafoam through the vaccuum system? not sure...

Yea, I've done this so many times. If it doesn't start on the first try for whatever reason, I get out and check things.

I had to turn the key on, and off, twice before going to on and crank it. The fuel pressure wasn't building up fast enough, and I didn't hunt the problem.

There should be two that are capped off on the 1993 model as i have a 1993 one is capped where yours is not in the pic the one thats missing should be capped and one at the back of the TEE should be capped off as well.

The other lines on there are one for the vaccum for the Fuel pressure regulator and the on back is for the Vaccum for the HVAC, HEATER and the AIR BOX they run into a TEE in the thin lines around the AIR box/HVAC area.

The other hoses on the TEE in your pic are for Cruise Control and the Brake booster.

The top hoses on the TEE is the vaccum for the transmisson modulator valve.

Alright, I capped off those nozzle, and found the vacuum line for the cruise control hanging down and reconnected that, unhooked my battery for a few minutes just in case, started it up and.....runnin great now! :)

thanks guys

Send a PIC again fir us to see. :)

As long as the Hvac, FPR, Cruise, Brake Booster and Tranny Modulator is hooked up there should be two capped only on the TEE.

If so then your rocking now.

LOL Happened to me today!
What did you guys use to cap it off?

You can go buy the actual caps at an auto parts store, but I got inventive and put a short length of hose on sealed with a tight fitting bolt. Works like a charm

Tryed to cap it off. Guess what it still idles rough, and smells like its burning a lot of gas. Still a vacuum sound too...Even if i cover it with my finger.

I have a 1993 btw

I'd say you still have a vacuum leak then imo.

You could also have a bad fuel pressure regulator.. Many times when they go bad they suck gas through the vacuum line.

Check the Fuel pressure.. and make sure there is no gas going into the vacuum line that goes to the FPR.
