Get the strongest you think you will ever need. True, six ton stands are over kill for an X, but is that the only vehicle you will ever use them under? Same goes for the jack. Another benifit of using the srtonger equiptment is you never have to worry about it not being strong enough.
One other thing to look at is how high it is. I have a 3 ton jack and 3 ton jack stands.. They were great when the explorer was stock.. but now that we have a 3"ish suspension lift.. with 32" tires.. My jack is maxed out when it just hits the frame. My jack stands aren't tall enough to support the truck by the frame with the tires on.. (unless I dig holes in the ground.. which I've had to do before.. not fun)..
Couple of weeks back I bought a new 3-ton jack to replace the 2-ton I already had. The new one has a wider wheelbase and is much more stable. I still have the 2-ton jack stands but will replace these real soon with heavier ones.
