Hello guys, I just got my 97 Explorer.. I'm planning to add 5' in lift and buy 33' in tires.. But I'm not sure what kind of lift should I use.. So any suggestions?? And I have little bit problem.. I don't exactly have all tools and equipment.. :( So I guess I gotta take it to some kind of shop and let them do the lift.. If so, then anybody know a good place at Frederick, MD?? Any suggestions at all?? Thanks

Get a basic set of hand tools and you will be good to go.

Run a search for the folowing subject lines

Tortion Twist 101 (2" front suspension lift)
Add-a-leaf
war-153 (both are 2" rear lift")
PA-883 (3" body lift adapted from the ranger)

There's a "Trick Trucks" in Frederick - tho they will probably charge you an arm and a leg : http://www.tricktrucks.com/location.htm

About the tools .. I would buy the tools now because you WILL need them later on down the road. For the hundreds of dollars that you're going to spend at whatever shop to do the lift, you could buy a VERY good set of tools. Plus what if you have to change someting like the wheel hub/bearing assembly? Go to Sears or something and spend about $100 on a socket set and a driver (especially sockets with 1/2" drive) . Get a breaker bar from Walmart - the Stanley ones with the ratcheting head works good. If you need any other specialized tools (though I can't think of any for the BL and the torsion/all), PM me and I'll see what I have and hopefully give you a hand.

All right, thanks.. I will check it out.. But I'm gonna wait.. And about tools, I meant I do have the basic tools but.. I thought that I would need some kind special tools for lifting Explorer or something like that..

the only things for a bl you need are really an 18 mm socket a rachet a breaker bar some pb blaster(liquid wrench etc...), a block of wood, time and a helping hand.
