what part is this?

can someone tell me what this part is? need to know.the the black clip attached to the end of the rod pops off the the silver plate under neath it? want to know how i can fix it. thanks for any help. 98 Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC 2wd.

its a vacumn actuated something ;)

Never seen it before - but yeah, It's vaccum operated.

I am not that familiar with the SOHC, however it is on the upper intake plenum and is some sort of valve, Could be a hot water bypass valve, shuts off coolant flow to and from the heater core and or throttle body hot water passage.

Somebody has to know?
Why is it broken?
Where does the blue vacuum line go?
 






If it's what I think it is, it's right on the top in the middle of the intake on the SOHC motor. If it's what I think it is, it's the actuator for the intake runner valve. It opens under certain conditions to change the length of the intake manifold runners.

I forget what it's called offhand though.... sorry.

Thanks for the info. I found out what it was and wrote in down on a piece of paper at work and left it. It is what you said Joe but like you I can't remember exactly what it is called now.
