I'm about to install a new Pioneer head unit to replace the stock stereo in my 2003 Explorer. I've been reading and reading and reading about putting a resistor in to the sub power-on lead for the factory amp and I'm a bit confused about what value to use. So far I have read about people using 1500, 2.3k, 4.7k and even 5.6k ohm resistors to do the job. I also read a post about a guy that put a 1.0k in and it didn't help and a 3.3k in and the sub amp wouldn't turn on.

My question then is which one to use! I picked up some 2.2k 1/4 Watt ones from Radio Shack last night but now I'm not sure if they will work or not.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give!

I would try a 470 ohm in series with a 330 ohm resistor. 12v remote turn on goes to the 470. The 5 volt out to the sub amp comes from the junction of the two resistors. The bottom end of the 330 goes to ground. You could also add a 1uf 25 volt electrolytic capacitor across the 330. This combination should give 5 volts at 25ma to the factory sub turn on. The 470 drops 7 volts. The capacitor will act as a very short time delay.

Hope this helps

i've used a 4.7kohm for years on fords with no issues

I have the regulator 7805 I need to know what color wires should be coming off the regulator with the regulator on my desk with the leads
pointing at me and I can read the 7805 do I put the red wire on the left
and black in the middle then the white on the right. I am also wanting
to know what gauge wire to use and how long to make them.

Thanks !!!!!!!
