So I got my radiator and thermostats replaced on friday and there was still a coolant leak coming from the vehicle when I picked it up.

I took the vehicle this morning to ford, and service department refused to check my vehicle out because they were too busy. I told them I dont care if you are busy or not you should have done proper job from the first time around. So I complained to the general manager of dealership about service I received and they a look at my vehicle.

I just called up the dealership to find out whats wrong with my car, they told me the reservior container that holds the coolant has a hairline crack in it and then sister of gm works at service department as well and goes over the phone, "this happen to my explorer as well when i had to replace the radiator so what i can do for you is not charge your labor and just the part only which is 48.05+tax." So now I am wondering if she was bullshitting me that she owns a explorer and making up that whole story just to make money."

In my opinion when they did the pressure test to find out coolant last week, the resevior was fine, and when the technician installed the part on probably damage it by accident is my guess.

P.S. This is only ford dealership we got this island where I live in hawaii too, so its kind of like a monopoly to them until another ford dealership opens up but that hasn't happen for 30 years so far.

Should I fight it and have them replace part?

What is everyone opinion on this?

heres a picture to see how old this service department is,

My suggestion is to not start a new thread and keep all the information together in your other thread.

no problem i do apologize for that

I agree with him^^ You start posts for every little thing. that why you dont get responses. many people dont respond to people that post the same thing all the time. why do you think i didnt respond when you pm'd me about the mirror. since you ahd 2 or 3 posts i didnt care to help any more.

It happens all the time. Obviously, the best way to avoid these things is simply diagnose and repair it yourself. You might have borrowed a pressure tester from an auto parts store like Autozone or Advance. You might have considered popping off the tank for a visual of the bottom. The tank submerged in a bathtub will show bubbles if cracked.
There is not much I feel you can do to fight that dealer besides opening one yourself to compete against their "monopoly". In the future, I would avoid them like the plague. I certainly would buy a tank online and save a few bucks.
On the bright side, you have a fresh Rad,Thermostat and hopefully new coolant that should last a few years.
Oh yea, if an Admin. thinks this post should be moved, I'm confident they will.
And, it's not how old the building is, it how old the mechanics are.

Thanks for your input mechanic, and i do apologize to those who have gotten upset about this post, i appreciate everyones help from this site and love this forum, i think you guys provide the best advice from any other forum there is.

yea we dont got an autozone or advance store here, we just got napa, carquest, checkers, and other small name local stores but they dont offer there services that you are talking about.

Not upset at all. It is just easier to follow along if everything is kept in one post. No need to start another post for a continuing problem.

the overflow is never tested if it leaks, since its a non pressure component it could of been overlooked, or it could of actually been leaking. in any case. the dealership did a piss poor job, technically you paid for a diag, you paid for labor, + parts and its not fixed.

so go for it make a big deal...

Rusty got boned. After a pressure test turned up nothing, a bell should have rang, insert "ding".
But what can Rusty do? Nothing, except raise his BP.
He can tell everyone he knows, THAT dealer ripped him off. He can ask for his old parts back, but who's saying they will be HIS parts?
He can hire an atty. lol. He can call and write Ford, rofl.
A good friend of mine was towing a trailer out of state when he lost two injectors on his dually. The local Ford dealer didn't care. It would be days before they would even look at it. He found a local shop to do it and to this day, years later, he has seen nothing from Ford for the attempted warranty claim.

oh yea... but that was in another thread... ouch.

But don't forget He got a deal on this not so finished job.

this is how i see it.

when i get a r.o

if its a diag to find the problem, it does not get returned till fixed.

if i get a r.o and says put this in... i do whats said. if it fixes it or not, w/e the customer made a decision and wanted that. most of the time, i'll just upsell the diag or the fix depends on what it is.

i though this was a plain simple goto dealer, i have leak, please diag/advise/etc.... i didn't know he had a deal.....

While I admire your diagnostic philosophy waskly, in this case I believe it was just a fof' friend of family discount.:salute:

well the guy that give the discount works is the manager of the parts department, but when someone told me on here to check reservior for leaks as well cause theirs had a leak in the reservior, so i mention that to ford as well when i brought my car to get my vehicle replaced, i told them to check it and they called me up and was like all that needs to be placed is the radiator and thermostat and i asked them about the reservior and they said that was fine
