i have a us acoustic 600f amp. It puts out 600watts at 4 ohms. Its only 4 ohms stable. Or 2 ohms each channel. (i think)

anyway i have a pioneer sub now. I have the bass boost cranked half the time and the gains a little too high. the amp does get midly hot. It keeps poping my 20amp fuses. Last night it poped a 25 amp but it was cranked wide open on a test tone.Is only putting out 300 watts. Its clear 1 pioneer 10 sub isnt enough for me. So im trying to decide what to do.

i should be getting 250 dollars at least for a truck im going to sell. so my budget is 250. I was thinking of getting a dvc 15 kicker l5 and a cheap prefab box off ebay. That wont go too much over my budget. Someone sugested i should get 2 12' alpine type r's. That will run me closer to 300 than 250. or i could get 1 15 type-r for about the same price as the kicker. Which would sound best off 600watts?

Now back to the amp. As of now im running 8 gauge wire and 8 gauge ground. As stated above the amp does pop fuses IF i push it really really hard. say max bass boost on the deck. I can rarely hear audible clipping. Even pushed to the max. Either the amp will go into protect or itll pop the 25 amp fuse i have.

so heres the problem im stuck with. Getting a 15' pushing it with the amp bridged at 600 watts or getting 1 more 10' pioneer. Which would be easier on the amp 1 15 or 2 pioneer 10's. a 15 would be louder than 2 10's right. So maybe it would be easier on the amp than me cranking the bass boost. With the 15 im thinking itll be louder even without any boost.

so any input?????

first you said the amp put out 600 watts at 4 ohms, and you only have one pioneer 10" on it. So unless that 10" is dual voice coil which you didn't say it was, you must be running the amp at 600watts not 300. im not familiar with that amp and a little search yeilded no results so im not sure, but 8 guage wire may be a little narrow for it, maybe try upgrading to 4 guage with a fuse to match whatever fuse is on the amp, first to see if you get better performance.

Also, don't buy a cheapo box off ebay, you could easily build a high quality and better sounding box for what it would cost just to ship it. i think my last homemade box ran me like $35 for a sheet of 3/4" MDF, some caulk, screws and polyfil, plus i built it to spec for that speaker so it sounds ten times better.

another thing is that a 15" will make a different kind of bass than a 10". 15's will hit lower where as a 10" will give you more punch, so its all about what kind of bass your looking for too.

the amp is a class a/b
200 x2 @ 4 ohms
300 x2 @ 2ohms
600 x1 @ 4ohms

or how i have it 300x1 @ 8ohms. But if i bought a 15 i would wire each voice coil @ 2ohms making it 300 each voice coil.

about the bass. i dont know. i listen to anything from lynard skynard to master p. I really like techno also. i know a 15 l5 would be awsome for rap but the 2 10's would probaly be better for the techno and lynard skynard. so i dunno. The 12's would be perfect for me but i really dont want 12's. if i went with anything else it would be a single sub. a L5 would look awsome. i may just go with a single L5. i could always resell it if i dont like it.

about the box. i have no tools what so ever. SO im stuck with buying an el cheapo box off ebay. :(

btw does anyone out there own an kicker 15 l5???

what happend when a 15 trys to play high end bass does it distort? i really want it to sound good but i also want it to be really loud..
:(

Try checking with a few local audio shops to see if they know of a local audiophile junkie that will custom build you a box out of quality materials and with proper bracing.

Good luck

the shops around here are a major ass rapege with grease not included. Back when i was looking for a truck box one wanted 100 bucks. For a little truck box. I found one at another shop for 30. i know the 100 dollar one probaly would have been better but damn thats more than the sub cost

actually the 15" would be better for techno and the 2 10's would be better for rap because a 15 has a lower frequency response(which is more common in techno) but they have a tendancy to distort when trying to play high bass frequencies, typically anything above 80Hz (bass frequencies which i would think are more common in rap)

I have never seen a single voice coil pioneer car speaker that is 8 ohms. Unless its meant to be a home stereo speaker, because those are usually 8 Ohms due to the different voltages their amplifiers run on.

Each voice coil in a dual voice coil speaker is usually 4 ohms so as far as wiring the DVC speaker you could wire them in either series to get a total of 8 ohms (amp+ to vc1+, vc1- to vc2+, vc2- to amp-) or parallel for a total of 2 ohms (amp+ to vc1+ to vc2+, amp- to vc1- to vc2-). Im not sure if it would be safe to wire each voice coil to their own channel because if something ever happened to one of the channels the other would still be trying to pound and that might cause problems. but then again i would hope they thought of that when they constructed them, so just look into that first.

i just remembred the L5 is the square so any box you buy for it has already most likely been built to spec since its the only one that will fit that box, which is good, just try and get one that is made of MDF and not particle board.

I personally have a 12" pioneer premier W-2000SPL DVC and have had bunch of other pioneer's in the past so i like pioneer but I have also heard some awesome things about all the solobarics too. I'd say go for the solobaric and you can make up some of the price offset by selling the pioneer 10" and the 15 should definitely be louder, im just not sure how you will be able to hook it up best with that amp.

The pioneer is a 4 ohms dvc. so i wired it in series

heres the 10' i have now

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-716Wqge6xDc/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=130W2541DV

i emaild the guy who sold and also helped design the amp. (zedaudio) and he said it would be safe to run each coil to each channel. but like you say that would suck if say one of the wires came out or something

also what about the 15 type R.? that one is in the same price range. Tho not as cool as having an square L5 ive heard it has better sq. Any insight on that??

15 seems big would i still be able to see out the back of the ex with such a huge sub back there. Damn that would be cool. #$#@$ tens i want a 15 lol. Plus down the road i can upgrade my amp and get another 15.

oh ok then that makes sense why its 8 ohm then.

i have never heard any alpine subs so i can't comment on that but if you got an alpine then the box you got for it would not be made specifically for that sub so it may not sounds as good. trust me, i work for BOSE the box the speaker is in makes a HUGE difference in sound quality!

First i use to build and install sounds systems befor joining the navy.

My personal opion would be to get two Punch 8's and put them in a band pass box that would be Home made.( I can Give you the deminisions if you would like to go this route) I have had this system in my truck for 9 years and people who get in my truck ALL ways ask what brand 12's i have and i have to explain to them that the sound they are hearing are comming from 8's not 12's. Pluse 300 to one 8 is better than 300 to one 10.

But thats just IMO

haha, now you opened a whole nother can of worms... one box looks like its ported and one looks like its sealed. ported boxes(the second one) will peak high decibels but don't have as low a frequency response and if the ports on the box are not done right they can cause annoying wind noise. sealed boxes(the first one) can be much smaller and will allow you to play lower frequencies but don't have as high of decibels.

I usually use seealed boxes just cause they are smaller and i'm not to worried about peaking out my decibels. so i would say the the first box should work fine.

Good Luck, when you get it all in let me know how it sounds!
