What should the timing be on my 5.0

I have a loss of power and I hooked my obd2 laptop up to truck and it was saying I have about 12-14 degrees of timing at normal operating temperature. So my question is what shoukd the timing be set at and how do I adjust the timing on this truck it's a 2001 mercury mountaineer 5.0 all that's done to it is cold air intake. Any help would be great

12-14 degrees advance? at what RPM? Idle? sounds about right.

Yeah I'm looking for the idle timing but now how to I adjust the timing

Timing is not really adjustable.

Only three ways:
Tune the PCM with a different timing map
Physically move the Crank Position Sensor
Physically move the CPS's ring on the harmonic ballancer.

It won't drift out of spec over time.

If you are down on power, the problem is probably somewhere else.

Ok so if it's say 15 16 degrees btdc how to I bring it back down to 12 14 degrees

You don't need to adjust the timing. The sensors that report the cam and crankshaft position are fixed, the ECU adjusts timing accordingly. There are no external adjustments.

If any one of those sensors positions were compromised, the ecu would detect it and throw an error code. There are many alga rhythms that the ecu runs to detect a timing malfunction just by looking at a few signals.
