What to do...

i wasnt the only one doing the install. my part was the enclosure and and amps (rack and wiring to sub).

it was in a van. there were 3 high output alternators under the hood. and four batterys powering the system.

d00d, u blew up like 3 systems now? might be time to give up or go to a system shop and let them help you out with the power specs cuz that aint healthy man

Update...

I checked my wiring...it has 8 ga. power and ground. my manual says anything from 7'-10' should have atleast 4 ga.:eek:, so the stupid installers didn't even have it right. Dumb @$$e$$! Anyway, I have a new plan, I'm going to take the advice of a lot of people here...I'm going to replace my amp(maybe). Tell me what you think of this:

$ 254.00 - 2 Kicker COMP VR's 12" 2ohm 400 watts rms
$ 191.00 - Box - built for 2 kicker comp vr's (ported) tuned to 38hz
Let me know what ya think of it...Dead Link Removed...very bottom of the page.
$ 556.00 - 2 Kicker KX400.1 mono amp 400watts @ 2ohms
$ 86.00 - Two 4 ga. amp wiring kit
$ 162.00 - 2 Lightning audio 1 farad digital cap.
$1249.00 - total including shipping.

Would this sound alright? Does anybody see any problems? Anything else I would need?
THANKS AGAIN!

the price for that enclosure is way too high. and the tuning frequency is 38Hz. that's kinda high too. this one is only $79. it's made really well:
Dead Link Removed
or if you want something smaller and less expensive:
Dead Link Removed it's only $46. it's also made really well. it's a sealed enclosure. you can either keep it sealed or port it yourself with a 4" holesaw and some PVC pipe.

and that price for the 4ga. wiring kits seems high too. go to wal-mart and pick up the 4ga. Scosche amp install kit. it's about $20-$25.

you could probably find the amp and subs cheaper too.

good luck.
:)

Dude... i dont think you read much correctly. For starters, a 400 W amp does not need a cap by any means another reason is that that amp has a regulated power supply. Another dumb thing (sorry) is why get old ass kicker VR's and a bandpass 38Hz box that will rattle your back window so badly it'll sound like **** hitting a wall. Buy a Pheonix gold Tantrum 550.2 and bridge it to one Alumapro. Youll be thrilled with the results. YOur config you put there is woth about 700$ but will sound like 20$.

Take my advice and dont follow thru on that.

Good luck.. If you need to talk IM me at tbish501

tbish,
THANK GOD, that you have enlightened me with your knowledge of all that is car audio. What would I have ever done without seeing your knowledge. Now that I got that out of the way...DUDE...you know what I hate...****y little ***** that think they know everything about everything and act like ****y bats-terds. I was holding back before, but I couldn't take it anymore.

Also, the box isn't F**king bandpass, it's ported. You must not read good or something cuz you totally missed that.

Sorry I'm so Dumb, but could you please explain to me what is so bad about Kicker Comp VR's???

Oh and I wanted the caps more for my lights and so my alternator doesn't have to work so hard. Does that make any sense?

And another thing, since you are THE GREAT ONE at all this stuff, why don't you explain to me how to calculate Ohm levels. I only asked 3 times and haven't gotten an answer. If I'm running 2 subs in parallel, do you just take the ohm level(per sub) and devide it by the # of subs. Or do you take the square root (of the ohm level per sub) if there's two subs and the cubed root (of the ohm level per sub) if there are three subs and so on? Or?

Sorry I had to go off, it just pisses me off a little when people that KNOW EVERYTHING get all ****y. Have a nice day.:rolleyes:

Hey man just take it like I do when i ask about audio stuff on here or at audio stores. Its cool as long as they explain it for me to understand i have no problem with them treating me like a dumbass, because in that part of my knowledge i am.. Oh well

Yeah, I understang, but I'm seeing a lot of ****y and not to much explaining.

understandable man, hey check out the W7 some more if you wanna go into the big bucks (its what i got :) )

Maybe it wasn't clear the way I had this posted before. There are 2 subs, 2 amps, 2 1 farad caps(maybe I could do 2, 1/2 farad caps), and 2 amp kits. Shipping is calculated into each $ amount.

is that post directed towards me? Just wondering? or were you just restating what you said before for the others here trying to help?

Oh sorry, no, it was just a general post. I wasn't sure if it was clear the way I posted it before. I might still look into the w7. How big is your box? I want to be able to have a little of room left in the back for "stuff" whatever that may be.

I'm still considering running the W3's too. If I got two (4ohm) W3's, I could wire them parrallel into a Kicker KX600.1 mono class d amp. It puts out 600 watts RMS @ 2ohms. The W3's are rated at 250 watts rms, so that might work out ok.

Not being a dick

Look just bnecause you have ported doesnt mean it isnt bandpass for starters. A bandpass ported box is one of the better methiods just not in hatchback cars. It rattles the window too much. Secondly, You did say you want a bandpass 38Hz box
$ 191.00 - Box - built for 2 kicker comp vr's (ported) tuned to 38hz

If it is tuned to 38Hz that means its bandpass. Why dont you start reading what im saying and taking it as advice not as a knowledge war. Im simpl trying to help. The reason why you shouldnt get Kicker Comp VRs is becasue they are old and will mopst likely suck ass compared to what you could get with your money. Another idea is not to mix up your brands so much. Lightining audio with kicker probably wont be as great. Now calm down and dont be a *****.

im not sure how big the ported box has to be but check naplesbill's set up thats how big mine will be i guess.

my post was just meant to save you some money. i wasnt putting the stuff down or anything. i just didnt want to see you spend more then you have to. sorry if i offended you. maybe i worded it wrong and you took it the wrong way.

anyway, if you have two four ohm subs and wire them in series it's an 8 ohm load. parallel will make a two ohm load. if you had two DVC subs (with dual 4 ohm coils), you could wire the coils of each sub in series to make 8 ohm subs, then wire the subs in parallel to make a 4 ohm mono load.

Sorry I went off, it was late and I was tired and I couldn't sleep and I didn't understand what you meant. I didn't realize that a ported box can be the same as a bandpass box. See, I told you I don't know too much about this stuff. So you think a plain jain sealed box would be fine?

No prob man, I wasn't pissed off at you, like I said before I was just being a grouchy lil b*tch. Anyway, thanks for the info, but here's another dumb quesion...what's the difference between wiring in a series and wiring in parallel? Pretty dumb, I know, but I'm just kinda begining to understand it.:confused:

Sorry again for bein' an @$$.

parallel is when you wire both positive terminals from the subs to the positive of the amp and both negatives on the subs to the negative on the amp.

series is wiring one subwoofer's positive terminal to the amp's positive. then wire that sub's negative to the other sub's positive. then wire the last terminal (negative on the second sub) to the amp's negative.

:)

Well geez, that's easy enough. Thanks alot!

edit:I wasn't being sarcastic here...I really meant it, maybe it came across as sarcastic, but you really answered my question...THANKS!

Your kind of a jerk 93... Your post is titled what to do so we gave you an opinion with some real knowledge behind it... we are just trying to help you get the best for your buck...

I just got done apologizing for being an a-hole...what more do you want? And anyway you came across kinda abrassive first, plus the way you explained it made no sense to me at all. Anyway, here goes again...I'm sorry I was a Jerk earlier. Like I said, It was late and I was tired. I couldn't sleep and when I read your post, it really aggrivated me. Since I was in the state of mind that I was at the time I went off on ya. Sorry.
