Very nice. 4WD? Don't be shy, show us pics. :)
Yup, 4wd we're in Washington, need that with all the rain. No pics yet :(, I just put a deposit down - dealership will receive it between Nov 22 and 28 then I'll go down, test drive to make sure all is good and pick it up. Will add pics then! :)

Rick, if you have Ford Pass see if it shows in the upper left corner. I haven't got it in the mail either but it's been on for Ford Pass for at least a month now.

Yes, it does, but it also says that owners will be notified by mail, and we haven't received anything.

you have some of the better Ford engines in your vehicles. The 2.3 in the new explorers are very good from what i've seen so far, and the block has been around for some time (it was in the Mazdaspeed 3's from a while back). 2.0 ecoboost is also one of the better ecoboost offerings. Mustang's 4.6 is also very good, though i prefer the older 2-valve heads without vvt.

Hi all,

Completely new to Ford, considering getting an Explorer 21 or 22. Wife needs a new car and she really likes the look and feel of the explorer. We plan to keep it for around 8 years and maybe cover 80k-100k miles during that time.

Currently she's in a 2014 Forester, 80k miles, no issues at all.

Can we expect the same from the explorer? Anything specific to watch out for?

Thank you!
Yes. Door Ajar lights indicating faulty door switch sensors. Ford's vendor seems to make faulty door sensors. Internal water pump failures. Generally, the warranty will pick up the first one. PTU's oil is recommended to be changed every 30,000 miles. Because of the complexity involved with this, most people fail to do this and then your PTU will fail between 90,000 and 120,000. Premature failure of the catalytic converter os also an issue. Do you drive at night? The projection headlights are very poor and for night drivers you will need auxiliary driving lights. Change the tranny fluid every 50,000. If these fluid changes have not been made, purchase an aftermarket warranty. I assume the water pump has been replaced as they seldom last more than 60,000 miles, and of the PTU oil has not been changed, expect replacement by 135.000 miles. Obtain a maintenance report. The police use these and most of the issues are covered my warranty. After warranty, most agencies get rid of them as they become very costly to operate. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I went ahead and put a deposit down for an Explorer about an hour back.
Good to hear, I wasn’t going to comment since most of the post was well said about the Explorer and choice of vehicle.
I’ve been a Ford guy most of my driving years however, I spent 10 years owning a Toyota. The last Toyota I had was a 2016 Tocoma, it was nothing but trouble. I don’t really believe in lemons but let’s say I had one with continuous and multiple issues. I totally understand but Toyota refused to acknowledge or back their vehicle beyond me making my home the service department. I traded the Tacoma on a new 2018 F150 with the 2.7 engine and never looked back. Took delivery of a special ordered 2021 Explorer XLT 2.3 twin turbo and I’m impressed! Best of luck!

I just got my XLT with the sport package last week after a delay of almost 8 weeks(on top of the initial delivery date) so far it has been really great. It feels very sure footed while driving and it's super pretty. My hubby who is completely a truck guy even likes it. I think your wife will be very happy with it!

The moment she saw it on the lot and test drove she pretty much told me any Highlander talk is not gonna go anywhere so yea she's really excited!

that is cool, the carbonized grey wheels look so much better than the black ones. Ours is infinite blue as well which was a 300 dollar option and I am not sure if it will even be offered on the Explorer in 22.

No Infinite Blue for the 2022 Explorer. Only Atlas Blue Metallic and Stone Blue Metallic.
