I am trying to make sure that I keep everything lubricated on my '99 AWD Explorer. I know that the ball joints are sealed, but what else could be greased? I looked in the worhtless maintenance manual that came from Ford and a few items that they listed are:
- steering idler arm
- transfer case shift linkage
- front half shaft slip yoke
Well, I am not even sure what these all are. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them as well as where the actual grease fittings are.
thanks for any help!
Eric

umm off the top of my head slide pins on your calipers and zerk fittings

You have to slide under the front and look for grease fittings-- there may be dirt and grease build-up covering them and sometimes hiding them so you'll need a rag to wipe them off. The tie-rod ends usually have grease. Just look around for joints that look like they need to move and grease everything with fittings. It sound like you might be pretty new to DIY maintainence-- it would be a good idea to get a Haynes service manual at Autozone or Pep Boys or whatever you have near you. That would give you more details and pictures, as well as let you begin to learn how some of the systems in the car work.
