Alright, I've got a few bumper Ideas. One is tube, the other is made out of square tube for the frame with steel cannel over it..

My question is this: What has everone made there bumpers out of? Wall thickness, DOM...etc

Also, what is the cheapest material you've found to use

I made mine out of square and rectangular tubing, looks pretty damn good. Just have to do the light tabs and the skidplate, couple of finishing touches and paint it. I was totally impressed how well mine came out. Cutting angles is way easier than using a bender.

Have any pics?

Also, what size rectangular tubing did you use, and how thick was the wall?

Email me. Put bumper pics in the subject line. cmacfarlane@shaw.ca I used the 1x2 and 1x1 eighth inch

Bumper I made for my Zuk is 1/4" & 3/16" plate steel. Used the 1/4" plate to bolt it to the frame and build the winch box, the 3/16" steel for the rest. Here are some pix...

Kit form :D

Currently, the lights are removed and there's a MM 9000lb winch on it.

That zuk bumper looks pretty bad ass man.....Thats what I was lookin for. You just welded them all together and then ground the welds flush correct?

Yep...Welded it up and ground it down..real strong too. I've whacked several boulders with it and it just bounces off.

Hey whats up guys I heard ur curious about making bumpers i made one last year for my Zr2 i made it in high school i used like i used .25 dom and like .50 dom i had plans on my computer htat may not sound right but i took 9th in the state for in the highschool mites compotition so i mean it was good i used thin wall copper for a bending guide and and make sure u find a notcher to notch it works so well rather then sraight up g riging it ummm i hooked my right up to the frame and well i think if i was gonna do it differently i would make sure u get a alot of metal and weld up where u mount the guard to the mounting brackets thats the huge key re-enforce the hell out of it because i used half inch plate for that and htat wasn't too hott and well it still was a lil shakey i will get a picture of it before i sell the crappy truck mine looks liek a pre-runner bumper liek those pro-comps

I've heard of putting a fitting on one of these and storing compressed air in them. Wonder if there'd be enough to fill up a raft or something?

Might also make good reactive armor in case of a collision. Poof! The Hyundai turns into confetti.

LMAO!

I built mine out of Rigid Galvanized Conduit. It's basically galvanized .147" wall HREW tubing. I used it because I got it for free and because it won't rust.

Ithought about doing that with my rear bumper after I had already cut out the light holes :fire: ! Maybe one of these days I'll go get Heep taillights and make a new rear bumper with an air fitting on it. BTW, here's my rear bumper. Made out of 3" x 6" x 1/4 wall box tubing. The ends are 1/4" steel plate.
