I will be changing my ATF fluid this week. However, would Mecron V cause any damage to my tranny? Whereas the specs say Mecron? I do realize that Mecron V is an upgrade, and have used it in many applications, except for this one, being that this particular tranny is already iffy, I want to be sure I don't cause any further issues. I was thinking Valvoline Max Life Mecron/Dex ATF, and a good bottle of Lube Guard tranny additive (red bottle). Lube guard is an excellent product!!! Would it even be good to consider even Mobil 1 synthetic ATF? Although, I am a big Amsoil fan, I don't have the time to await for an order of fluid to be shipped. What does this tranny truely thrive on in terms of tranny fluid? I am going to flush out the ATF via the cooler line, and allow the fluid to self extract (no acceleration) and add/replenish incremental equal amounts. 99% of my mileage is hwy@150 miles per day! Thanks in advance!

Best Regards:)

I recommend the Mobil 1 although it is pricey. I switched all of the fluids in my truck to synthetics and switching to a synthetic ATF was the only switch that there was a noticeable difference. After I flushed my trans with 20 qts. of Mobil 1 in the way that you described I noticed right away that the shifts were more positive feeling.

You can find regular Mercon under the "Dex/Merc" name

I saw a Dodge Dakota trans go out Friday afternoon after a filter and fluid change..... I just don't see how y'all take these gambles..... looks like a 50/50 shot in the dark to me..

I would definitely go synthetic.

Also, I feel that Amsoil ATF is the best and well worth waiting for it to arrive.
