I am seriously thinking of driving my 96 Explorer with 238k from The Mile High to Alaska. I have owned this truck since 1998 and always joke that after an oil change "she's ready to drive to Terra Del Fuego." I have of course done almost all maintenance. She has only had a water pump and a fuel pump go out.
I will check everything of course , but I am curious as to what members think. :salute:

Go for it. I was planning on driving my explorer from Georgia to Alaska and back this summer. I lost my job and my new job is less hours a week so I'm postponing the trip now.
I'd change all the fluids, and check brake pads.
Not sure about you but I was going to sleep in the truck, so a few modifications are happening and going to happen :D

all new fluids and make sure that you do proper oil changes,,

and don't get too shocked when you get to the Canadian gas prices,,

North to Alaska Exploreing

Hi, well I did it. After changing all the fluids, wheel bearings, hubs, shocks, and of course routine maintenance on the 96 explorer. My wife and I drove the AlCan highway. Great trip, awesome views and wildlife. The explorer now has 247,286 miles on it. It did great as I expected. I did have a plug wire loosen to where it touched a hot part and created a miss. I don't even want to think about the gas usage that caused. I do hope to return to Alaska or more fishing and site seeing. Mt. McKinley was in the clouds when we were in Denali. I did see it when we were on our way to Anchorage, awesome.
