I have a 2001 4wd ranger. 4.0 SOHC. Motor needs some work and I am thinking about just swapping out the motor with another one. I think the counter balance shaft would be a non issue if the replacement was a 2wd motor. I keep reading that anything newer than 01 will not fit/work. Is this due to intake or other exterior bolt on parts that I can swap out? Newer Explorer motors are a lot more plentiful than older Rangers. I am considered a fairly competent mechanic, I just don't want to buy a motor that I can't use. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks, I did try a search before asking, just didn't find what I wanted.

fuel injector harness

The Ranger has a split fuel injector harness outside the head intake ports while the Explorer has a single fuel injector harness between the head intake ports.

To avoid electrical problems use your Ranger engine wiring harness.

Any problem going from a manual trans motor to my automatic, just swapping flywheel for flexplate?
