96 was the first year. In late 97 they went to the GT40P heads.. got about 5 more ponies too.

Do the v8 explorer gt40 intakes look like the Mustang gt40 intakes? Are they cast alum. or made out of bent tubes? I saw a 97 Mountaineer that had a cast intake almost like the 94-95 Mustang stock intakes.

They are cast aluminum intakes... very similar to the Cobra intakes. Here's a pic of one off a '99.
