Can someone enlighten me on this?

What the heck is a spool and how does it compare to a locker?

A spool takes the place of a differential and it just makes them axle shafts kinda like on peice in a way. They are pretty much like lockers in the way that they give equal tracion, but they have no clutches or anything like that. I don't remember what issue it was but there was something about lockers and spools in peterson's 4wheel & offroad not too long ago.

A Spool is the ultimate in offraod locker. Actually it is not a locker at all. ROCK883 is correct. Both axels shafts are joined together. Both axels will receive powered equally under any circumstance. Which there in lies the problem. It cannot alter wheel speed for turning. If you are going to use this truck solely for off road and want the best locked performance get the spool. Its cheaper than any locker or limited slip device. I would only instal it in the rear. But be very careful on the road you will not like the way the truck handles. I would even go as far as saying that it is dangerous.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Eagle,
Not only is it DANGEROUS, but it is ILLEGAL to use a spool on the street.
