I'm looking to get a Safari Bar for my 2k XLT and some Hellla 500 Driving Lights to mount on it. I'm getting them primarily to increase the range of the factory headlights, but I would also like something that would work well in heavy snow. I know that the fog lights light of the edges of the road, and that the driving lights light up further down the road. I am going to guess that the driving lights would be better, but I could be wrong. I will also probably upgrade the factory fog lights as well. Thanks in advance.

Hey, welcome to the board!! There's tons of good info here, and lots of ways to help you spend your money :p. The search button on the toolbar is a great tool.

For heavy snow, fogs will be better than driving lights. They are more dispersed, and you won't get the glare reflection back in your eyes. I have both fogs and driving lights on my truck, and in heavy snow, the driving lights make it very hard on the eyes.

I see you're from Saco, ME. I spent a lot of time canoeing the Saco river when I was a kid, and spent my summers on Conway lake.

Low mounted fogs with a yellow light will cut through snow the best. And welcome to the board! Word of caution though.. if you spend too much time here your Explorer will get taller and your wallet will get thinner (or atleast that was my case) ;)

Yellow fogs.

Have you thought about the Sylvania Xenarc HID kit. They are HID fog lights. I love mine. Got them from Sylvania.com Online Performance shop.

Yeah, that works for the snow and cold, but then ya gotta deal with bugs the size of small rodents, gators, and only two seasons.....dry and rainy. :p :p :p :p :p

Well, if you don't like having fewer seasons you could always move to Texas.
We average 300 to 400 seasons a year.:D

Best thing for snow is a nice 4X4, ski pass and a set of skis!!!!

I agree - colored lights are the way to go in the snow. They create less glare and cut throught eh snow when it is actually snowing, whereas the regular lights reflect back.
