I did some damage to my fenderwell and black headlight trim plastic..I have some plastic pieces to repair them with but would like ideas on the best way to go about bonding the repair piece to the undamaged part..I'll be cutting of the bad stuff then hopefully melting the pieces together...it miht not look perfect but at least will do for form and function until I feel like a new fenderwell or headlight assembly...

Will a soldiering iron work on this? A match? A blowtorch?

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

JB WELD----It is high strength Epoxy

You might want to try Hysol Epoxy Patch. We use that stuff at work, and it bonds plastics very well. You can get it in clear, white, or black. You can also dye the white any color you like. Cure times at room temperature are about 2 hours to harden enough to use, and 24 hours for full hardening.

One of the problems with melting would be that it makes the plastic more brittle and more suceptible to cracking. Cyanoacrylites (superglues) are also not a good idea because they are water soluable.

If you truly want to fuse plastic together use a cyanoacrelate i.e. SuperGlue. Go to the hobby store and buy the stuff that radio controlled modellers use, works great. I use it all the time on the aircraft my shop works on to fuse plastic back together.

Or you can use super fast dry windshield urethane. You can pick up a tube at a windshield shop or just about any parts store that carries auto body supplies. You just pop the tube in a caulking gun.
Just make sure to wear gloves! Also don't get it on anything like clothing. About the only way to clean it off is with lacquer thinner.

There's probably the easiest answer. Make sure it's JB Quik Weld though. It dries in an hour instead of 24.
