What's that noise? A Poll.

OKay guys, I'm taking sorta an informal poll here.

My truck recently started making a really strange noise, which I have tracked to the fuel tank. I recently had the tank down searching for an evap leak, but I never ended up opening the tank, or breaking any of the connections (except the filler tubes), and put the tank back up.

Now, it is making what can only be described as a "Bong" noise. Something is floating around in there, and making this noise as it bumps against the sides of the tank.

The truck still runs normally, fuel gauge works mostly normal (I think the float may be getting hung up on whatever this is from time to time, but then gets free). I'll be dropping the tank next week to open it and find out what this is.

In the meantime, What do you think the noise is?

There is a pickup area that is bonded to the tank that comes loose and moves around the fuel tank and it also affects gas gauge operation. You will need a new fuel tank or take it down and remove the pieces and don't run the gas tank low.

I have been a Ford tech for the last 16 years, I have seen and done pretty much everything Ford lol.

That would explain my 2000,I don't hear any noise but the fuel gauge will sometimes not show full after I fill it and the most I have ever put in it is about 14-15 gals even when it shows empty.

The gauge will finally go to full within 15 minutes and never flutters or any of that,just shows full to empty in 15 gals which I know is incorrect.

I think Lynchy had the same issue I did- we both got hung up on the word 'bong' and it went downhill from there.

Sometimes I whine pretty loud. I think that's more from having blue Ford blood though...
