seriously, this is pathetic now if someone still believes V8's were available in a 1st gen. Do what my friends grandfather said, run the numbers on the truck and window sticker, they will not match up and show a V8 available or trim delete (which doesn't make sense anyway).

Fischer
Dude, I am totally with you man!! I too own a GENERATION 1 V8 Explorer!!!! Yes it is a 1991 Ford Explorer with the ford EFI V8. I too have the Eddie Bauer trim delete....just take a look at my pics!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The point I am making is you are making Random comments that are confusing people. You said "some one you knew" "said they ordered" an explorer with the v8 package. You said they "OPTED" to have the 302 package thrown in as well.

Was this through FORD? or a high performace specialty shop which could easily have done the swap. The fact is.....before Ford Came out with the V8 explorer in 1996 and before all the aftermarket v8 part companies started making parts for the swap....it would have been very hard to put a V8 in a Ford X!! What type of drivetrain did this Gen 1 explorer have? Was it 4x4? AWD? 2WD? Did it have an AODE? AOD? Did it have a mechanical fan or electric fan? (thus not having a short front ACC kit)

Also, the parts to put a V8 in a 1996 Explorer would not have been the same parts to put a V8 in a 91-94 Explorer since the FRAME mounting points were different in 96+ V8 X's.

This post is probably goign to end up with Fischer and Twooverpar saying .......... "OOPS....Turns out these were early model 1996 Explorers with the eddie Bauer Delete option.....meaning they were XLT's.
(or, looks like a local speed shop did the "COMMON" V8 swap in these gen 1 explorers)

Anyway........ so......unfortunately no one can provide pictures of these mysterious V8 explorers lurking around. (except me.....look above)

I know I am offending everyone.......it's only natural....BUT..... Please people, before you throw out random comments....Do your RESEARCH. Back up your opinion with Hard Core FACTS. Saying that you have a friend of a friend that told you he has a Gen 1 V8 explorer is not a good way to back up your thesis. I welcome anybody to please shut me by proving that I am wrong!!! OK??? Pictures Please!

EDIT - also B2C, I taLked to our dealer (Holman Lincoln Mercury) and asked how hard it would be to change a factory window tag. They said it's very easy to get a hold of a spare one and change it if you would like, although they didn't know why anyone would do that or try to, nobody they know has tried to yet. Hell the guy at the show probably scanned his, then changed the info and printed it out, thats how easy it is.

I didn't know how easy it was to obtain another window sticker. Now that I know that information, then I could see the swap being done elsewhere. On a side not as far as having to do a lot of fab work to get a 5.0 in a Gen I, I don't really agree. I have an '88 Bronco II with a 5.0 and it didn't take much and there is plenty of room to work on it. Also have a '91 Ranger getting a 331 stroker.

This thread might end up getting closed, but I wouldn't.

{rhett zips up flame suit}

Quite frankly, I cannot believe this is a serious discussion, especially here (!)(!) it sounds like a bunch of mopar people discussing ford.

Bah.... There is no need to shut down this thread. Everybody is waiting to see proof of this mysterious Stock GEN 1 V8 explorer. LOL.

Just remember there little Buckaroos you can't believe everything you read. ;)
Bro, read my post clearly, he was General Manager for General Motors Corporation, meaning he was in charge of implementing objectives handed down from the CEO and board of members. He was not a regular "joe" manager if thats what you thought, this is a corporate manager in charge of operations of the whole corporation and made a few million per year and still has connections with General Motors as they still ask his advice occasionally. And no, he's not even close to 70 years old. My post was mainly to show the big 3 know basically everything about each other from prototypes or development (no matter how much of a secret it is) and he acknowledge that Ford did indeed think of offering the 5.0 in the Explorer to compete with the Grand Cherokee V8, but decided not to. If there was a test mule it would be destroyed like the others have said on this thread.

Dude, read all of our post clearly, I'm not trying to flame you or anything.

Goddamn I've only made like 5 posts and allready I've created a war! JK, I'm just waiting to see the pics if there really is a 1st gen V8.

I don't know how easy it is to just get a window sticker w/o buying a car, besides asking for a friends or jacking one ect. ect., but the dealer (we're friends with them) said that you could take a window sticker for a stock 1st gen. for example, scan it, and change the info accordingly. Thats what I meant by easily.

You could fit almost any engine if you have the money, the problem is trying to relocate everything you need to keep the vehicle as a comfortable daily driver. I could drop a 502 in an Explorer, but I wouldn't have a millimeter of room to place anything else;)

The problem with a picture is..... well, I have a whole bunch of pictures with Gen 1 Explorers and Rangers that have stock looking V8 in the engine bay. There are people who put theses 5.0's in and ya couldn't tell that it wasn't stock. Usually the biggest give away that it is a conversion is: The motor mounts, the headers..... and advanced adapter, and the year of computer wiring it had.

For Example, if it was a 1994 Explorer, with a v8 in it from the factory, It would have to have a EEC-5 (or I-V) controlled computer and AODE transmission. (since AOD was discontinued in 93)

So, if he takes pictures, we need to see the motor mounts and tranny...... w/out that, there is no way to tell it apart from any other stock looking conversion.

Please, GET SOME PICS

Ok, I dug this up from an item I was watching on Ebay a while ago. It's a 1994 Explorer with a V8 supposedly in it. He doesn't give many details but in the small descriptoin part under the picture of it, the engine is listed as a V8.

Just a typo

this is getting really stupid! i'm not gonna say anything infammatory to anyone, i'm just waiting to see proof of this if these trucks exist! but, the proof needs to be hard evidence. in other words, my truck has cobra badges, says cobra on the cobra spec gt40 intake's efi cover, and sounds like a cobra. however, if you actually know what you are talking about you can easily point to many things which prove that it is not a real cobra (such as the headers, or the 90 degree bend in the intake that was taken from a full size van and not a cobra etc) so in order to prove this stuff you're gonna need to find real evidence! including motor mounts and the like.

Precisely!!!

off topic - asp84, just curious as to how well your limited runs? A lot better than the 4.0 I bet , ehh. Must suprise the hell out of people when you pull away.

Saleen EXP:
I basically turned my 91 in to a 1994 Limited by swapping all the interior and exterior parts including the COMPLETE vehicle/body and dash wiring harness in to my explorer. I also installed the Ford 5.0L V8 EFI...(lol) and it does make quite a torque difference.

My explorer has a 3 inch single exhaust and one catalytic converter...... so it is Extremely loud. When I pull up to stock explorers..... I usually get the look.....like what the hell is under the hood.

Yep, I like my GEN 1 V8 explorer.

Aren't there a lot of members in the Denver area? Why don't you just have a bunch of enthusiasts go out for lunch sometime with your friend and let them all take a look at his rare setup?

How knowledgeable about cars is your friend and his dad? I had a friend that had just bought a new S-10 Blazer in '92. Chevy just came out with the 4.3L in the Blazer. Somewhere between the dealer and my friend, my friend got it in his head that he had a 350 V8 in his Blazer. I had to explain to him that the 4.3L was basically a 350 with 2 cylinders chopped off. When he couldn't find 8 spark plugs, he finally believed me.

I was just on the prerunners.net board and I found out that the last year Rangers used I-beams was 97. I thought it would have been 94 like the X's. Since the X's started using the SOHC 4.0 V6 engines in 97 and above, does this mean that the 97 Rangers had the SOHC V6 also? Cuz if that's what the Rangers are using, then I'm gettin a Ranger!

Rangers didn't have the SOHC until 2001.
