What's the best engine year of an X?

What are you guys talking about? My 1991 Explorer has a 5.0L V8 in! It's a Ford 302!!! What do you mean 5.0's didn't come in Gen 1 explorers. I sware mine has one it!!! I even have badges on my fenders that say my explorer came with a 5.0L V8. Don't beleive me? Go visit my website, I have pictures to prove it.

Just Like Fischer and twooverpar said. They have also seen V8's in Gen 1 Explorers and they have V8 badges on the fenders to prove it!!!!

LOL LOL LOL LOL ....OK, i was just kidding.

Fischer and twooverpar : There is no such thing as a 91-94 V8 explorer. Although, there are many people who own 1991-1994 explorers that have swapped V8 engines in to them. (like me) You guys are too gullable. Just because their is a V8 badge on the fender doesn't mean FORD put that V8 badge their. Just like the Ricers so. Just becasue their is a HONDA "R" sticker on their doesn't mean it has the Racing package.

Anyway, unless you can get a picture that shows an 91-94 engine bay that has a ford factory 5.0L V8 in it, you fallen succeptible to a stupid V8 badge.

This is funny!!

Al - w his STOCK '91 V8 Explorer (STOCK V8 option)
**** EDDIE BAUER "B" V8 option.....lol

mmmhmmm... What he said... if there's a v-8 in it, it's been swapped...

ford put a cobra spec 5.0 in my 96 and i have the badges too.;)

Wow,
Expo 5.0........... you and me both? Ford put the CObra spec 5.0 in yours, and Ford put the Eddie bauer "B" V8 option in my 1991. We must have some rare explorers.

We should start a club for us special owners that got these rare explorers.

Al

Wait, you guys are forgeting about your Eddie Bauer package that doesn't come with any Eddie Bauer trim and included the 5.0, you guys got the ultra exclusive Cobra spec engine that was in 1st gen Explorer Eddie Bauers w/o anything eddie bauer, damn you must have contacts in Ford;) :D How many of these did they make?:p

Ok, guys. I am putting together a list of all the people who have the Factory Ford special Explorers:

Fischer has a "friend" who ordered a 1994 Eddie Bauer Explorer without the Eddie bauer trim, but with the special edition 1994 Explorer V8.

twooverpar has a friend who has a STOCK Factory Generation 1 explorer with a V8 from the Factory.....and he must of ordered it with the stealth V8 packege because it has no badges. Wow, Ford sure has cool special order packages.

Ok.....ASP84 has a Bone Stock 1991 XLT with the factory 5.0L V8 option and the limited edition wiring option. I decided to let ford put the v8 badges on mine.

Expo5.0: Has the Stock special order "COBRA Spec" option on his stock 96 explorer. His explorer came from the factory pushing 280 H.P. and 340lbs of torque stock.

So, Who am I missing? Who else out there has the Eddie Bauer 91-94 stock V8 option?

please help me.....I am trying to put together a list of all the cool people and their "rare explorers"
Maybe I will even start my own UBB board.

Thanks
Al- Stock 91 V8 explorer

Guys I believe him about the V8 in the Gen I Ex. There are 2 or 3 runnig around here where I live that have them. All have small factory V8 badges on the fenders and have the efi 5.0.

1st gen V-8s don't exist... I don't even believe I've ever seen a concept one from ford all the way back then... if they did exist... this site would know about them :o

Next time I see them, I'll take pics.

Don't tell me your falling for this 1st gen V8 thing!?

Anyone else believing that 1st gen Explorers came with a V8, do you know how easy it is to do a swap to place a 5.0 in the engine bay and just slap on some V8 badges?

I can go buy "factory V8 badges" and stick them on an integra. Your friends are lying to you, or they bought the truck used and the previous owner did a swap.

They don't belong to anyone I know. One shows regularly at car shows and he has the factory window sticker with v8 option included.

If a person is good, they can swap in a V-8 and make it look stock... It only takes good fabrication

Allright, all this joking around is getting way too confusing. Is there a V8 available EVER in a first generation Explorer? I sure hope there is, or maybe I'm just too gullible.:D

skater252000

There is no such thing as a Factory Gen 1 Explorer. The only way there would be a V8 in a Gen 1 explorer is if somebody swapped it in there....which is very common these days or if somebody bought it from a company that customizes explorers.

So far, all I hear is a lot of TALK and no FACT. And just because someone has a badge that says "EFI V8" Doesn't mean that there really is a V8 under the hood. No one has come forward so far and said, yes, I own a Gen 1 V8 Explorer. All I have heard so far is: "I have seen explorers with V8 badges running around town" and " I have a friend who ordered a Eddie Bauer V8 explorer from Ford with the Eddie bauer trim delete"

In order for B2Cobra to prove that these explorers actually had stock V8's in them. He would have to take a picture of the engine bay......not the stupid little badge that says "V8" We would have to see "flawless wiring integration" Stock Ford motor Mounts, Stock exhaust, etc, Stock radiator and fan. etc. Also, they couldn't of been testing the parts for 96 V8 explorers on 1991-1994 because the V8 Explorers they used in 1996 Had EEC-V wiring, and different motor mount frame locations.

The point is......Just saying I have seen an Explorer roaming around town with a V8 badge is not a very good stance to take when trying to prove that their are V8's in Gen 1 explorers. It only causes confusion. Now skater252000 thinks that he can go buy a Gen 1 V8 explorer.

I found a picture! It shows a 1994 5.0L V8 in an GEN 1 Explorer:

Ford was sure smart using that 45 degree angle to clear the 91-94 heater box! I think Ford shoulda put the battery tray on the driver side of the car....so the air intale could go behind the headlight. Whoevers Gen 1 explorer this obviously used a K& N airfilter instead of the original airbox.

Having spent quite a bit of time at all three of the "Big Three" automotive test facilities, I know how they are when it comes to test vehicles/non-standard vehicles. Even if Ford would have been testing a V8 in a Gen 1 Explorer, they in no way would have let it fall into the hands of the public. I've had employees tell me that it makes them sick to watch the manufacturer smash a perfectly good vehicle into a 1M cube when it has served its purpose. They won't even let the employees make an offer on it. When I was at one of General Motors' proving grounds last year, the employee I was with said he wasn't even allowed to watch the crash testing of their vehicles. Only a select few were privy to such information. GM feared that if an employee saw fluid come out of a car after a crash test and told someone un-affiliated with GM and then 5 years down the road one of those models got into a crash and caught fire, what the employee saw could cause serious harm to the company. If Ford ever put a V8 in a Gen 1, there are dozens of "scab" magazine publishers that live for that type of information. It would have been published in a magazine long before the stories of "I have a friend..." started.

Thankyou, I think that should have cleared it up. Even if he so called "special ordered it" it would have costed an arm and a leg, so your 20,000 explorer would have been probably around or over 100,000 (hell maybe a million considering it was 1 of a kind) taking in cost and development ect. ect. Plus a 5.0 under the hood of a 1st gen is pretty cramped when you have to move everything around, and Ford wouldn't have taken the chance. I have seen a 1st gen with a 5.0 under it that was done with a swap, the kid said it took a lot of modifying and fabrication to get it to fit and it's harder to work on, and he's right, it looks so cramped under the hood compared our 5.0 under the hood of our 00' Mounty. Just look at the pic Asp posted.

Also "Eddie Bauer Trim" but w/o Eddie Bauer Trim:confused: ? Ford wouldn't have done that.

EDIT - also B2C, I taLked to our dealer (Holman Lincoln Mercury) and asked how hard it would be to change a factory window tag. They said it's very easy to get a hold of a spare one and change it if you would like, although they didn't know why anyone would do that or try to, nobody they know has tried to yet. Hell the guy at the show probably scanned his, then changed the info and printed it out, thats how easy it is.

Normally I would not care so much as to retort to such an asinine remark.

First off I am not gullible, rather I prefer not to talk about things that may put me out of my element. Such as people that are quick to critisize.

Secondly if you had paid attention in the prior postings you would have seen or perhaps remembered that I said he got it without any EB badging and therefore he would NOT have a V8 badge.

All I know is exactly as I stated prior and "to the best of my knowledge", so that means to the layman, "Take it with a grain of salt."

He or his father (by the way this is a family friend and is about 45 years old, so I doubt he would have the time to blow smoke up my a$$ with this one) ordered it this way as he wanted no stinking BaDgEs, and he opted to have a 302 thrown in as well.

Let me ask a question, Did anyone here 1. Design the 1st gen explorers. 2. Anyone work in the plant while these were being made? Exactly as I thought. :)

I will do my best to get a photo for all you nay sayers. Then you may cordially wipe that grin off your face.

Til then ta ta.

I can't wait to see those pics....it is amazing how easily people can be fooled.

I thought I'd throw this one in also, my friends Grandfather was the General Manager for GM, now your probably wondering why that would matter. The Big 3 know everything about each other, thats how they develop products to compete, Ford knows basically everything about GM and vice-versa (from prototyping to development ect. ect.), these are the words from his grandfather. He still obviously has connections with GM and offers his advice still today, and he said there never was an Explorer when they first came out, if they had a test mule it would have only been one because he said Ford was thinking of offering the 5.0 in the 1st gen to compete with the Grand Cherokee, but later retracted that idea because of the cost to make a 5.0 fit and still be able to work on reliably and they also didn't think it fit the Explorers image, thats why they waited until 96' to release the 5.0, he also said theres no way you could have ordered it "special" and if you did you can bet the guy would be broke because it would be an astronomical price, not only that, but he also said car manufacturers destroy basically any test mule or protoype they are working on. He related this to the people who used to say they "special ordered" their Tahoes or Blazers with the Corvette version of the 5.7 V8, he's even heard of people say they ordered a Tahoe with the C5's engine and that they ordered their 300M with the Cherokees 4.7 V8 (that I was suprised to hear about), sorry, but these things do not happen in real life. I was just over my friends house (he lives with his grandfather) and thats what I asked him about, and after being a General Manger of GM he definitley knows his stuff about American companies.

Some of you make it seem like its impossible to do a swap or stick V8 badges on it. His grandfather also said that if you run the numbers on the truck/car or the numbers on the window sticker he guarranties they will not match up and show a 5.0 V8 as an option.

The Eddie Bauer package w/o the eddie bauer trim though he has no clue about and never heard any manufacturer that would do that except for high-end exotics such as Bentley's that can be ordered with the only options you want and tailored to you.

Also, he has a 94' Explorer slightly modified for off-roading (doesn't take it offroad though, my friend mainly drives it) and a new 02' Limited, 03' SL55 AMG (no, I haven't been for a ride yet, won't let my friend drive it) and 02' CL-600. Kinda funny he was manager for GM, but has two Fords and two Mercedes, guess we know who makes a better quality vehicle.
