I don't know about all of you but my truck rattles and squeeks with every bump on the road. I did a search for this topic in the forum and didn't find much info. I'm wondering if any of you have used different materials to reduce noise inside your truck. I want to get something that I can put under all my panels and maybe even the floor.
The only stuff I've heard of is something called dynomat but this is used more for perfecting audio and its quite expensive. Any tips would help.

Thanks in advance,
Robert

dynomat

When I installed all my new audio components, I added about 10 sq feet of dynomat, it worked great, It might be expensive, but it's well worth it if you want a quiet ride. or, you alos might swich out your waetherstiping on your doors, it could have worn out causeing more noise in the cabin.

good luck,
Neuman

In my experoence, a dead body works well at deadening sound... :D Sorry, couldn't resist.

reducing noise

There is also a type a foam spray that you can put inside the doors of your explorer to reduce noise. Sorry, but I don't the name of it. You can find it at a car audio place near you. The whole idea of the dynomat and this spray is to reduce vibrations and that is basically what you want to do.

I used a product called Noise Killer in my car... Its kind of like a foamy paint... It didnt work. Nuff Said. Maybe Ill get something like dynomat. I have some noise/heat shielding in my garage.. but the stuff is kinda on the thick side... Anyone know of a place to get big sheets of dynomat on the cheap? Also... how much of an improvement did you see in noise reduction using it?

Nick

Hey guys there is this stuff called b-quiet that is supposed to be just like dynomat, but cheaper. I dont have any experience with it though. I plan on getting some soon, and see if it is worth it. Has anyone tried this product. Just thought I would let you guys know there is another option. Their web site is http://www.b-quiet.com

"econo-mat"...

OK, either I read this somewhere, or I dreamed it, or I'm making it up as I go along, but try this...
Get some 3M spray contact adhesive (big can- $12,small can- $8. Any leftovers can be used for countless other diabolical experiments), and a roll of heavy guage roofing tar paper (50 ft roll- $14, or even some scraps from a construction site... *during the day, ask nice and you'll get more than you need* :)

Cut out the pieces you want to apply and spray one side and spray the area where you want it to stick. Let it dry for about 2 min. and press it in to place. Careful with the pieces putting them in place. If you've ever worked with contact cement before, you know, if it touches together, it's stuck.
You could put this anywhere you put dynomat and it would serve the same purpose. If you wanna do the "big job" I'd suggest cutting the pieces to extend over any body/panel joints.
Of course, I haven't done this (yet), but I'll probably dream about it tonight...

Errr...doesnt roofing tar paper smell like tar? Unless Im thinking of something else...

Nick

Hmm... better sniff it first.

I know when you first crack open a roll, you can smell it up close. But after it is unrolled, the odor dissapates. I know I bought a set of clear floormats for my Explorer and I had to take them out because they really smelled like chemicals or something.
Guess I'll take a couple large pieces of tarpaper and stuff em behind my rear panels and under the carpet and let it heat up parked out in the sun to see if it's an issue.

Ya know... you might get used to the smell... and wont notice it.. then after a long car ride youll smell like tar. And all your friends will start calling you Tar-Boy behind your back... next think you know you dont have any friend and are living in a van down by the river... :)

Nick

I like government cheese....

Yea but i could roll up in the tar paper remnants and keep warm. As a kid growing up, I always thought one of those big culverts under the freeway would be a good place to live...
