Whats the diff. between XLT and XLS?

Which years are you referring to? The XLT adds chrome bumpers/trim, electric seat, upgraded stereo, other options. You can't get the V8 in the XLS, or many other options. The XLS has gray bumpers/trim. I think about the only option on the XLS (when I bought mine), was a "Convenience Package" -- privacy glass, cargo cover, cruise control. Check out fordvehicles.com, or kbb.com, or edmunds.com for complete details. Depending on the years, I think you could get a 5-spd on the XLS, and not on the XLTs?

in an xlt electric seats weren't standard though....only in limiteds

did they even make a 98 xls? i thought they were started in 99? but xls i believe only came with 4.0 ohv engines, while xlt had the option of a 4.0 sohc or 5.0 v8. no leather i believe in xls, and no center console. other things might be options

I have electric seats in my XLT and have the SOHC. Also have the upgraded stereo with CD player, and lots of other fun goodies, but no leather or V-8

if your looking at a 98 its not an XLS, those didnt start until 1999, like someone else said. the XLS is basically a 4 door base sport, no power groups, no moonroofs, nothing fancy. hope that helps a bit

Replasment!

The XLS was built to replase the XL. '99 was the first year for the XLS and the last for the XL. It's kinda weird though my XL has almost everything in XLT does.

Actually, the XLS does have power windows/locks, and keyless entry.

Nope, it carried on until 99, it was just rarer than other models. There is alot more first gen XL's out there than 95-99 XL's
