Is it possible to run off the manifolds into one pipe then to the dual cat into a y pipe to a 40 series flowmaster and run 2.5-3" out and to the back?

Do you have vehicle or emissions inspections in NH? If so then no.

Just a word of advice. Don't start asking a bunch of questions about converter reomoval. If you do your thread will be locked.

is it nessecary to have the resonator on also?

No it's not.

by law your not suppose to remove any exhaust peaces at all unless you replace them its a 10,000 dollar fine for each cat you remove. but it is ok to replace them with racing parts like i did. as long as you have the required equipment for the vehicle your fine. And if you don't care yes the explorer will run great with straights. But I suggest not to take all cats off i replaced mine with magnaflow universals cats

So can I just make a y pipe after the two cats into a flowmaster and do I have have to replace the resenator with an aftermarket one or is it illegal to not have one or take it out

All the resonator is for is to keep from getting exhaust drone. With a Blowmaster it's going to drone no matter what.

As you can tell I don't lilke Flowmaster. I would look into Magnaflow.

can I take it out though. Or is that illegal

Your best bet is to contact the state of NH. It shouldn't be as it's not part of the emissions but you never know.

What to do depends on how much you want to spend.

You can buy a catback kit that bolts on behind the catalytic converters, and will give you a louder sound, especially if it's a straight through muffler.

You could also take it to an exhaust shop and have them make a catback with a muffler and bend up some custom pipe.

The more expensive option is to replace most or all of the exhaust system. Headers, new high-flow catalytic converters, and a higher flowing muffler with all new pipe for everything.

I'd suggest just going with a straight-through muffler, either with a bolt-on catback or a custom shop job for a mostly stock motor. Magnaflow and Dynomax both make good straight through designs. Some people do like the sound of Flowmasters.

Replacing the converters and going with headers might not do a whole lot until you add other engine mods. You'll get a "meaner" sound just with a performance muffler and pipe.

Magnaflow

Glad someone mentioned Magnaflow finally. They make excellent mufflers, best flow (look at the internals of a Flowmaster, there's not a lot of good flow) Magnaflow will be a bit louder. Or there are glass packs. I don't know how to route a dual on the Explorer, I've seen quite a few here on the boards though, so I'd check with them on how they managed to route theirs. The best thing you can do for your exhaust is to have some kind of crossover if you do duals. it will even out the pulse between the two cylinder banks. A dual in/out Magnaflow has a crossover inside. I've heard some 5.0 Mustangs with the Magnaflows and they sound the best IMO. It's pure sound, just a little muffled. There's also a flow chart in the Modified forum that has all the mufflers listed as far as the HP gain and dB level. Good luck.

weird qestion why does his stock system look diffrent from the stock system i had.
