What's the thing in the center console cupholder?

In the dual cupholder in the front center console under the rubber liner, there is a black device in the front one. What the heck is it?

It's the factory cup holder in any 06+ Explorer. If you look in the front one under the rubber insert, there is some kind of black device. I was thinking it's maybe a drain.

thats the access hole to get at the park safety override buton for the day when you cant get it out of park

What he said. You should practice using that because these shifters have a tendency to go bad.

i have one too after checking today.

I also have the shift outta park problem....but I have no clue how to fix it...sicne mine is out of warranty and im not paying the dealer
