I'm having my third Jasper 4.0 installed in less then a year, all under warranty. This will also be the last Jasper engine. If it don't work it's gone and I'll put in a New Ford Engine. Should have done Ford in the first place, thought I would save a little money.

Anyone else had problems with Jasper engines or good luck with their engines, please advise.

I must admit, that Jasper has preformed all the warranty work without question, which also makes you wonder about quality of their engines.

Actually I have never had problem one with Jasper engines. IMHO, Standing behind and warranting an engine (no questions asked) is not a sign of a compant trying to cover up poor quality parts, its more like the actions of a profesional company following through with its obligations.

What part is failing in these engines?

First Engine,, Push Rods shaving Metal not enough clearance. Jasper replaced engine since there were metal shavings in engine.

Second Engine: Lifters were bad had to be replaced Oil pressure had dropped from 56 to 50 since install 3 months earlier. Then Timing Chain went bad Oil pressure also down to 47, this was 4 months later. Timing chain replaced. Jasper Rep said to not worry about oil pressure, it was still in safe area. Then one month later timeing chain goes out again and oil pressure down below 40 which is this engines minimal pressure.

Third engine being installed Monday, all at Jaspers cost.

Don't get me wrong, Jasper has honored every part of their warranty. It's just very agravating to keep having these major engine problems. I thought Jasper had a very good reputation.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this engine will be alright.

Oh, this is under normal driving conditions also. Do to all the [problems I haven't felt confident enough to take it off road this year, even cancelled a trip to Breckenridge CO for some off roading. If all the problems are corrected with this engin we may still try to get out that way for some wheeling, like last year.

Spent a week in Frisco CO wheeling, even went up to Red Cone, but didn't have enough nerve to try coming down it.

Can't wait to get back to wheelin.

Thanks for your input

On Wed 06-25-03 New Japser Engine installed (3rd Engine) runs like a champ, but has minor oil leak. Oil pan has hair line crack, near drain plug. Engine has to be pulled so new oil pan can be installed.

Jasper is covering all repairs and has agreed to give me a loner vehicle until mine is back up and running.

I just don't understand what's up with Jasper Engine quality control.

Mechanic test drove vehicle and says engine sounded great, for now. I guess I'll see next week when oil pan is replaced and I get to drive the "X".

oh my god dude your scaring the sh*t out of me while im reading the problems your having with jaspers motor!!!.anyway i have a jaspers in my 92 with about 4500 miles on it and have revved it to god after break in point, wheeled it, stop and go traffic, took it to palm springs and sandiego(i live in san francisco) just put another 500miles in the mountains and it has been great ever since.hey did you get the 95.00dollar warrenty for it?.and if you did they don,t care about your suspension mods or did they even check on it? sorry to hear that your having so many problems, i use jaspers in our fleet and the motors are standing up to the abuse the drivers give them so i went ahead and got me a jaspers after i drownded my truck .keep me posted on what happens.i had a oil leak but it was the level sensor, the dealer replaced it for free.take care

Funny you should say that!

I am a Ford Technician/Automotive Instructor. Back when I was doing heavy line about 3 years ago, I was asked by management to install a Jasper 7.3l DIT diesel engine for a customer. The first one had a vibration so bad the windows almost seem to unroll themselves while driving (manual windows), the second was burning so much oil I could have sworn that I was driving a truck out of the Spy Hunter video game, and finally the third held up. Needless to say that company no longer purches jasper motors. On the other hand I have heard a lot of good things about Jasper. Just remember as long as a human is building it, mistakes can happen. You were probably just like me and got the one out of a hundred that was crap!:D

If it makes you feel better, I am on my 4th FORD FQR 4.0 for my Ranger at only 59k miles. Original #1 marbled really bad and knocked so they replaced it. #2 blew a rod and left me stranded 500 miles from home in the middle of BF Egypt with a full load on a Sunday. #3 seized just after the tech installed it. Now I'm on #4 and its finally feeling strong!
Just like my FORD 5R55E Transmissions. Original #1 slipped itself to death. #2 popped into neutral when ever flooring it. #3 is perfect!
I guess with rebuilts, its a crap shoot because you never know the condition of the metal around all the replaced parts. Either that or just poor quality control.
So there you have it, Jasper or FORD rebuilds?

Well, got my X back yesterday. They put the 3rd engine in last week and found it had a hairline crack in the oil pan, sooooooooooo, they had to pull the engine to install new oil pan.

Mechanic states that this engine has really good oil pressure and seems to run very smooth. Oh yeah he Blessed the engine.. He's not a priest but said it couldn't hurt.

Talked with Jasper and they are starting my engine warranty over with this engine.

I'll keep you posted on engine performance or lack of. :) :)

hope you finally can enjoy this one,i pushed my engine at 2900 rpm for about 80 miles straight and it had plenty left.please please keep me informed on how it works now.good luck

Update:

Just had vehicle in for 500 mile check up. Everything looks great. Oil pressure is up, better than ever and engine runs smooth.

Jasper paid for all the repairs, plus a rental vehicle.

Next update at 3000 mile check up, unless there's a problem before that :) :) :)
