Okay I bought some subs and an amp from a friend about a month ago. After I installed them I noticed that my right channel sub was making a buzzing sound every-now-and-then. Well today I was putting my subs back in cause I had taken them out to haul a new TV home. Anyways I decided to play around a bit and was going to run one sub of both channels or in "mono." Well I used the left sub cause I thought the right sub was screwed up. Well then the left sub was making the noise. So I hooked up the left channel of the amp to the right sub and it sounded fine. And then the left sub sounded like crap when hooked to the right channel. So I guess it's my right channel that is screwy. Now the buzzing sound is basicly constant but you can't hear it when both subs are hooked up cause the left sub sounds much louder. I was wondering if this has happened to someone else? Could it be something I did while hooking it up or is 1 channel on the amp just bad? Thanks. (Sorry that was kinda long)

Hi MrSteve,

You did a good job testing the stuff to start troubleshooting the cause. The last test is to try and switch your RCA inputs and see if the channel problems switch in respect to the inputs. If it doesn't then it means there's a problem with your amp. If not, then there's something else going on. If you were hauling stuff, make sure it didn't move around and screw with anything, the usual stuff you'd most likely dismiss, like the amp chassis being grounded by the screws and stuff like that.

Good luck Steve,

Jon

Thanks for the reply. I'll test that out and see what's up. Hopefully it's the headunit. I bought the 3 year service plan from best buy so maybe i could trade it in for the new 7200. Oh well we will have to see.

Where is your power wire run? Becasue I had mine coming through the drivers side and there was a loud hum in both my speakers and at times it was so low that you couldn't hear it. What happened was that the power wire picked up some engine noise and trasmitted it to the subs. I re-ran the power wire through the passenger side and the noise is compeltly gone.

Unfortunately...

My power wire is run down the passenger side. Well I switched the RCA's and the buzz is still in the right sub so I guess it's the amp. Oh well this is only a temporary set up. I hope to set my system up like this. 2 infinity component sets up front 1 the way it is now with woofers in doors and tweeters in A-pillar and the the other set in kick-panel pods. Both sets powered by a front channel amp. Then 1 12" sub in a bandpass box powered by a 125watt amp and the an MTX thunderform6000 with built in 100watt amp. I think that will sound awesome. Oh and no rear speakers so that I have room to mount my amps behind the panels and have access to them through the rear speaker grilles. I have my amp now behind where the stock sub was and all I have to do is remove the grille and I have access to my amp and crossovers. I am going to post pics of my truck with in the next week once I get it washed. I'll post lots of pics in Before and After and system pics in the Audio forum.
