Hello, my name is Matt and I have a standard Ford Explorer 2003. I am 19 and beginning to do my own mechanic work. I live in Palm Harbor, FL and extremely familiar with SUV's (seeing as this is already my second one). I plan on being active on the forum especially since I have basically no idea what i am doing. These are some things I want to do: auto-to-manual, 4-inch lower or higher raise (not sure yet), high-end exhaust, and i am sure there is more! Thank you all in advance for your help and maybe some day I will be able to help someone else.

welcome matt, its a great forum, and you can find everything you need here.

i would start out with a muffler first, then maybe move onto a full cat back.

but here is a simple driveway clamp on muffler install. you could do it with a $40 muffler from napa or something.

that is the first mod i would do lol, since its easy.
just my .02 cents.

good luck, have fun with the X!!!!!

thanks for the advice, so starting with the exhaust would be better than any other option? sounds good to me. hope to post some pictures soon, need to get a camera.

thanks again

ya my magnaflow cat back was totally worth it!! instant power gains, there are jbl headers for the 3rd gen, but they wont do as much without cat back first.

and of course a good tune up is always a good thing to start with, dont skip by this either!!!

down the road if you decide to do suspension, i personally think the 3rd gens look better as a sport truck (lowered with rims, etc...) just my opinion.

but no matter if you lift it or lower, a better flowing exhaust will treat you well.

welcome matt

thanks for the warm welcomes, i hope to get some before pics up of my explorer soon and when i do i am open to any suggestions, still have not decided what i want to do yet
