ok in my 2004 explorer when i put it into reverse from park it doesnt click all the way and i have to wait about 5 seconds and the whole car jolts violently into reverse and then it works

if i put it into reverse and then immediatly press the gas, the engine revs and then goes into gear and i peel out

is this a transmission problem and how much is this gonna cost to fix

Sounds like it's just low on fluid to me. I'd be surprised if it was any thing worse on such a new unit. Unless it is being used to haul heavy loads eg. Trailers, boatsetc. But you never know. Make sure you check the fluid level when it's warm in neutral or park on a level surface.
:can: :chug: :us:

There is a TSB for that problem.

Oops. and a recall too. 04s22 i think.

Yeah... check the fluid first. topping it off could cure your problems, and the TSB.... I have a 5 speed manual explorer 1994 and one time too much fluid made it go into no gears... funny how it works. :-)

minimagpro-take your xlt to a ford dealer right away before you cause more harm,It will be fixed free of charge, under warranty. You will need a shift solonoid replaced and an additive added to your existing fluid to keep problem from recurring.Make sure you describe the delayed reverse engagement to service writer so that they will know to change solonoid.good luck. :us:

And skip the checking of the fluid. Can't do it :p The new ones are "sealed"

Im gonna run it by the ford dealership and have them take a look at it before something serious happens

thanks for all of the help

You're kidding? Sealed?

They are not "sealed", but there is no dipstick. There is special equipment required to add fluid to the trans, and a special procedure to check the level. What minimagpro probably has is a solenoid problem, which is very common.

Oh boy. Thats all ford needed to do. Their autos are so weak to begin with and now we cant even check our own fluid. Who are these engineers anyway?

They will force people to get other name brands. :fire:

Yea I had the same exact problem you do on my 04 Explorer. It would always jerk back when u put it in reverse. I took it in and they replaced the selenoid on it. Seemed to fix the problem but I noticed it shiffting kinda weird. Thats when I got the letter about the re-call. They should of sent you the letter. Somthing with the transmission fluid, they have to put the right mix. I took it in and I was out in 30 minutes. It runs fine now.
