My fuel gauge is always on low. I bought new gauges and that didnt work. So some people said it is the sending unit. Can someone tell me if it is the sending unit and how to replace it?

test the sender. should be 145 Ohms with full tank, 22.5 Ohms empty.

most of the time it is the sender that is bad. the float fills with fuel.

to replace it, i would suggest getting a good repair manual (something every vehicle owner should have).

The sender unit is in the tank with the fuel pump. If your pumps not new you can just replace the complete unit with a new one. It's not to bad in price I paid $109.98 for it at Advanced Auto. Just drain and drop the tank, remove old unit, replace with new unit and install tank. It's a good idea to clean the tank while it's out. They may be plactic but they still somehow get rust in them.

here's a question on this one, what if the FP is new? is it possible the mechanic fubared it on install? With the new info (thanks cjones!) I will be taking the handy dandy multi-meter and putting it to good use.:D

if you are talking about the sender unit then, it's possible. the float is on an arm that if it bends out of shape then the gauge will be incorrect or the float may have been damaged or both.
