Whats your Explorer worth?

Was at the dealership getting some parts, and for grins I asked the appraiser what he thought the rig was worth. He looked at real quick and said..."$500 tops, you ruined it with all those mods". Shoulda punched him in the kidney right there and than.

Ya i wonder if that line would work when I buy a Raptor...

Anyways, I think I'm gonna end up keeping it.

Seeing the real value is in the memories it would be priceless as well.

Besides the tranny, my fault, and first front clip rebuild, also my fault , the truck hasn't been too bad, just maintenance mostly.:salute:

I should be able to still get $5,000 out of mine pretty easy. Southern Utah Truck so no rust at all really clean inside and out and only 106K

V8, XLT, Leather, etc

NADA shows mine at:
$3,125 for clean trade in value
$5,150 for my retail

Kelly Blue Book shows:
$5,825 for retail

Pretty sure I could get it out of it if I tried with full maintenance records good tires as clean as it is etc.

Mine is worth $30k to me, but to everyone else it's worth about $2500 for a rust free, very clean 280,000 mile loaded '95 XLT

Exs seem to be holding their value around me to around $2500 for 1995-96 models with as many miles as mine has.

My 01 limited with 115k was just salvaged due to someone turning into the front of it. The ins is cashing me out 7600 for mine minus my $1000 deduct. I'm buying it back for $800.

I wish it was that easy :( SUVs (esp Explorers) never go for KBB value. I learned that the hard way..

So, I finally got my 96 limited and I paid $ 9821.00. That's the final price.
Once again, this is a medium price for this kind of cars here in Italy.
It also has LPG on, brand new brakes and tires, winter tires too, new transmission and new water cooling and pump.
They also made new spark distributor, engine timing and gave me a couple of mirrors, front lights blocks, and air filter.

I know it's expensive considering the age and the miles (160k), but it's one of the best quality/price ratio I found around.

If I should sell it today, I want the same money I paid. Maybe something more... because it's shining bright now :D

:australia

Here in the land of Oz.
Not to long ago I bought a '97xlt for $900 with a corrosion hole in the head. Other than that it was in excellent condition.
It was leaking water at the back of the head near where the thermostat housing would be. (If it were turned around and put on the other bank)

I removed the intakes. Dremeled the hole. Filled the hole with JB weld, a bolt and more JB weld. Put it back together. Drove it for about 2 months. Then sold it to a secondhand dealer for $3000.

Best thing was dealer offered me $2500, but I told him it was a plum, he agreed and gave me $3000

I still have my priceless '98. After doing the timing chains myself it is not just a car but a monument to my achievement.

I totally agree...

What would I value it it? Probably a million bucks, it's my baby and you can't really put a price on it. What's it worth to someone else? Well that's a whole other story, in that case it's probably whatever the current scrap price is.
Could never part with her. I bought mine for $6200 bucks, when it was still worth $9600, and it was like brand new! I've tried to keep her that way and she's still in darn good shape with no rust. I'm getting ready to put a new (Rebuilt) crate engine in her from Ford for $2042 and I'm planning on getting another 200K out of her! She still runs good but has a slight knock.:salute:

If were lucky, we might get about 75% of KBB/Nada value, but typically these truck go for about half of that. Its a harsh reality, but the SUV market (esp Explorers & 10 yr old vehicles) dont do too well.

>.> Just bought mine for 3k, it kbb's at 4.7, granted dealers are still trying to push top price when selling. and lowest price possible when buying.

In my opinion, the memories gained with a loved vehicle is like that of a pets, impossible to replace or give up easily.

Thus my memento collection of keys from my dead cars. =/

dang, mine has 270k nd still uns strong, just did fullbtune up and getting ready for new front end parts and 4XDIG conversion

In the late 1980's, I once sold a '78 Datsun B-210 for $2400. It took a couple weeks, but it was a really nice looking car in really good shape with fancy wheels and tires. I got exactly what I wanted for it, which was more than what it booked for. A woman stopped to look at it and when she discovered what I was asking for it, she ripped me a new one - telling me, "You can't sell it for that!" Well, I did.
So, if you really want to sell your Explorer, (quite possibly the best vehicle you have, or will have, ever owned), than sell it for what you want for it and don't worry about what people "say" you can get.:D

It's not a matter of not wanting to sell it for book, it's a matter of most people knowing they go for less.

At the dealer auction a couple weeks ago a 2002 explorer XLT with 102,000 went for 1800 bucks. And Craigslist is full of them listed at or near book and no ones able to sell them. There are a lot of explorers on the road and for sale. The old supply and demand thing.

Just an example of what things are like where I live, here's a real clean one. As of the other day the guy still didn't even have an offer yet.

My local Craigslist is littered with the same Explorer for sale ads too...and yes they are priced at book or below. Sometimes it gets frustrating sifting through all of the dead for sale ads.

The old saying holds true: We can place a value in our hearts, but when it comes to monetary value...Something is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

Kelly Blue Book says my 1996 XLT is worth $4,670

That must be retail, which is what a dealer would charge with a 30 day, three thousand mile warranty.

Well, right now the transmission is out, so about $900.00, because the rebuilt transfer case has only 10K, plus I recently did control arms and rear axle seals & bearings.
