Hello

Couple of questions. While turning right at slow speeds seem to get a growling, do not think it is a grinding noise. In the front right, but sometimes the noise seems to bounce to the left. Lift the X yesterday and everything seemed fine, ball joist, tie rod ends and bearings. Any guess? Read a lot of old threads, people with the same problem but no solutions.

I was going to disassemble, and repack bearings if possible. 98 auto 4X4. But I stopped because the book said that I can not reuse the wheel hub nut. (actually said "NEVER reuse") This true? Also are my bearings re packable or do I have to replace the whole hub? What is the best way to check bearings? They seem fine to me but maybe I am checking them wrong?

Thanks

Try removing the weight from the wheel, then grab the tire at 12:00 and 6:00 and try to get some movement-if there is any play at all in the hub it is bad-

And yes, they are a sealed unit-replace the whole hub assembly.

Did that? No play in the hub. Thanks. Could the stabilizer bar cause any noise?

Nope...

You can't re-pack the hubs... they are sealed from the factory, and they cannot be separated without damaging the assembly. I had a picture at one time of an old one I pressed apart for fun... It's a unitized assembly...

other than your hub it could also be a bad u-joint or - god forbid - something within the front diff. Make sure CV joint boots are intakt and with no holes. As for the hub nut... I did reuse the original one. I think they worry that the old nut after removing might be prone to getting loose. Will have to check after a while.

Don't buy hubs on ebay or any cheap on-line store - you will pay twice.

I did replace hubs on my truck and ABS light came on after a day of driving... word is that these hubs are very cheap chinese knock-offs.

Thanks for the info. I will reuse the nut. Is lock-tight recommended or just torque to 200? Also I usually just grab my parts from NAPA. Would their parts be okay or should I look for a certain brand for the hubs?

NAPA should be fine since most of their crap is either made in the US or Canada.

Don't know about locktite - I didn't use any on mine... maybe I should off?

What is the price of front hubs in the states? Canada is pretty pricey. Wondering if they are worth order on-line? Any suggestion? Thanks
