wheels hot

I'm sorry if i have posted this question in the wrong place..I have a 94 explorer 4 wheel drive with manual locking hubs and when i drive it around out of 4 wheel drive the round metal part that is around the knob that you turn to lock the hubs gets really hot on both wheels..is this normal? If not what do you think is wrong? Once again thanks guys, you all are awsome.

A combination of bearing rotation and disk brakes are probably making it hot. Fairly normal. Repacking the bearings with synthetic would help a lot.
