I'm up in the air on what kind of wheels th get. I have a 1992 Sport 4x4. I was going to get a set of nice 15's and 30x9.5 BFG's. I also like the way 17's or 18's look but I loose that whole big tire truck affect. I also like the wheels for some on the new X's like th 2003-2004's. My questions are will the newer rims fit the 1st gens with the 4x4? Will rims from a Cobra, or 5 lug Stang work?
Any help or pictures would be great.

Thanks

I think that you can put those wheels on a 4x4 1st gen BUT you will have to take the wheels to a machine shop to have the centers bored out. (not 100% sure but pretty sure). Ther are threads about this, use the search function and you'll find a better answer.

Good Luck

Thanks for the help. I was wondering that myself.

the newer explorer wheels will fit. You will have to drill out a hole in the center cap to clear the 4x4 hubs though

i got a set of 2003 16" wheels off ebay w/ tires.

I think they really look nice on my 1st gen and it definately changes the overall look of the vehicle. I replaced the saw-blade type 15" alloys

the new wheels do sit just a little further in than the originals. I don't have any rub issues though. Probably moved the wheel in about 1/4"-1/2"

it is noticable when you first change them but doesn't look out of place by any means

sorry about the bad pics. it is dark out but i thought i would snap a few pics to give you an idea

Thanks!!! The pics are fine, but the seems like a lot more wheel well room. Are those the stock tires? I was worried about the 4x4 hubs being in the way. I was talking to my friend and he said the same thing about the Cobra wheels that I have to drill the center out for the 4x4 hub:mad:. What about the 2003 Lighting wheels??? Any one use them???

Thanks!!!!

:)

that is the stock 16" tire. it is actually like a .1" larger than the 15" stock tire is, according to this tire calculator

i think the lightning wheels would have a different lug pattern.

i also think that on the cobras you might have to actually drill the wheel and not just the cap. If thats the way you want to go i would check before you buy. Maybe try to get a test fit.
